V6 wont start after cam belt change

Way out in this context is about 90 degrees.
Too far to adjust with the dizzy

We tried the ECU as well ! Have spoken to the garage, they remember it. The mechanic who did it has moved on but is still a friend and they are going to call him and get back to me.

For the timing to be 90 degrees out would mean the rotor was pointing to no6 contact and not no1 when the cams timing where initially set up .. but from memory i think your mechanic checked out as being OK ..??

I have said .. you can set the static timing up via the marks on the engine and crankshaft pulley ..

Even using a strobe at cranking speed should 'freeze' the crank pulley to give you a basic timing ..

In my youth (ie: pre strobe days) I used to set up the static timing slightly retarded .. just lightly nip up the dizzy .. crank the engine at the same time as slightly rotating the dizzy to get the engine to fire ..

Are you sure , I would have thought that it would be N02, if so its just a matter of changing ALL the plug leads on the distributor cap to compensate for the drive being out(if that is the case).

Actually at 90 degrees out it would be pointing at No2 .. 180 degrees out was the more common way to be out so on the V6 it would be pointing at no 4..

If it's 90 degrees out there's no way it's going to fire when cranking so it really looks like timing is the problem, not sure what has happened to get to this stage but there seems to be something serious out of alignment to me...

Does anyone else out there with a V6 have a timing light and could check the timing when cranking somehow?

Latest update from yesterday
me and Steve have been looking over everything very carefully on your car for the last two days it is mostly back together but still does not run but we have done some other tests and we think we may have found some thing the wiring to the dizzy. I have done an ohms reading test from the dizzy to the ecu and it shows one wire open circuit and one shorted to ground.

We shall look at this closely on Monday

The Dizy in this engine is used to send timming signals to the ECU so you could well have found the culprit.

It came as great relief to hear yesterday that the engine had finally leapt into life. Seems this wiring issue was the problem. Supplementary problems now are breather hoses crumbling and no charging occuring but these should be easy to resolve now. Further tips always welcome.

That's great news . When I was chatting to Mark, we did note the wiring (especially around the LPG system) was not looking as neat as it should be and some of the plastic convoluted trunking was very brittle.
