Bongo Fury

Finally I think we have got to the bottom of it.

The other garage have confirmed the fault lies with the distributor! (not the cap or leads but the actual distributor) They have swapped out with another van they have in stock, so are confident that this is the case. I ran this past our local mechanic, who confirmed it would have been his next port of call, but that the readings he was getting were confusing the issue. The unit is being sent off for a rebuild, so fingers crossed.

In our case the van was drive-able, although you had to pick your routes, but I know of another owner who is having similar symptoms, but is unable to drive to a garage with it because it is so bad. I wonder if ours is the only bongo with this issue???

Wey-Hey finally got the van back today, and all appears well. Distributor refurbished and re-fitted. Great service from Campers Scotland up at Grangemouth, very efficient and friendly to deal with, keeping us informed each step of the way. Thanks!!

Great news.
There have been many posts of late with reference to petrol Bongos lacking power. So this is going to be great news for other owners trying to track down faults causing lack of performance. I'm certainly going to check this out on my van as I'm experiencing similar problems.
Did they say what it is thats failing within the distributer? As I've never thought about a disy causing this type symptom. Also who are the company that carry out distributer refurbishing? I can see a bit of business going their way as the bongo fleet gets older.

The company the garage used was in Glasgow, not sure I can remember the name?? AVA leisure could also get the work done via a company they use down south. It may in deed be a common fault as the vans get older, although ours is fairly youth full in bongo terms being a 2003.

Nice to have it back on the road.
