I think the relay is the same type used for the headlights(?) It may have played up in the past, and the central locking relay swapped over as a temporary measure? I guess the previous owner got used to the lack of CL...

That would explain the missing relay on Colin's van..
I had drawn a theory that maybe some kind of relay eating Bongo mite could be to blame..

To many David Cronenberg movies me thinks!!

Used your diagrams to retrofit an actuator. Was extremely useful.

Couple of points to add if I may:

1. Got an actuator from Maplins for £9.99 (5 wires)
2. Only used one push-rod as the one that came with the unit was just long enough
3. You understated just how tight it was in that door space, am now scarred for life

I used a two wire actuator, & found one of those old school wire coat hangers did a great job for an actuator rod..

Those doors do tend to cut yer hand up though!

Hi jaylee & bainy , now that my central locking is working since I plugged the relay unit in I would now like to make it remote,so when you fitted the actuators did you get key fobs and a control unit as well ? Colin newbie

The kits should come with all you need, just make sure it's got the actuator with it like this one - http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=12303 . You can get 2 actuator kits, but there's not usually much price difference. You can pass on the other actuators to offset the cost or hang on to them as spares.

the kit that comes up on the maplins site is not remote locking ,it is central locking ,I want to upgrade so that I can use a fob which sends a signal to a control relay ,which in turn operates a door soenoid /motor fitted in the drivers door, the existing switches then unluck the other doors via the relay that I have just fitted . I fitted an alarm system & window roll up unit with mine... (just in case they get left down.)
The whole lot alarms & locks at the push of a button!

However.. I've just upgraded the entire alarm system! (This one alarms, locks & disarms, unlocks with no need to push buttons.) The last alarm was pants & died on me..!
The extras included should give the ability to remotely roll the rear blinds, should they be left down & in the event of passengers!!

I fitted a remote locking kit entirely into the o/s door no probs, nice and easy fit .

I got it from one of my workmates ,he in turn got it from ebay £25 i think .he got it for the solenoids to replace ones already fitted to a rover.the kit consisted of remote module that conected to a solenoid ,also rods so u can connect to the lock button/rod, the power and earth are already there via c/locking wiring and 2 remotes. hey presto and 30 mins later full remote locking.
