Re: Facebook
I think you've summed it up perfectly Chris. Facebook feeds the compulsive side by pushing phone app notifications at you, but historically BF has been so much meatier as a Bongo chat experience. The trouble is that with people being pulled into FB and finding plenty of company there, BF becomes short of new posts to read. I'm now FB'ing a fair bit but trying to point people to BF wherever i can, because there's more legacy sound advice to be found on here. And BF exists solely for Bongo lovers whereas FB exists solely for profit.

Re: Facebook
Ok Mike agee a bit of poetic license there but BF is essentially Bongo specific, is what i'm suggesting.mikeWalsall wrote:Ummm .. Sorry but I don't entirely agree ..mikeonb4c wrote: ........... "And BF exists solely for Bongo lovers whereas FB exists solely for profit".

Re: Facebook
While I admit I think Forums are far 'superior' to FB with more in depth / more easily to access a knowledgeable 'data base' ..
I also personally dislike some Forums (not just BF) where you need to be a paid up member, so in effect charge for certain information that in a lot of cases was freely contributed my enthusiastic members ..
Another dislike is with the larger % of female Facebook members who sometimes get queries answered by some of the 'dumbo brigade do not have a clue' .. FB contributors, who I hate it when they offer childish answers / remarks when (say) some one asked what a button / switch is for ...
Although saying that, I think more 'simple' questions get asked, than maybe members would not ask on a 'proper Forum' like .. wheres the engine dip stick .. how do I check the gearbox fluid .. tyre pressures etc: good / bad dealers .. servicing .. spares etc: most which get a quick (usually instant) response..

Re: Facebook
Agree totally with all of that Mike. I've seen some bad advice given out on FB (as used once to happen on here but much less so now).
Re: Facebook
Yes I have to agree as well, the number of times I cringe when I see a response that is totally guessed at or from some other reality!
You then have to find a set of words that won't offend, whilst correcting the situation if you can, not always easily possible

I think I've said it before but my first point if call is a Google search, the top results invariably contain multiple forum links to another Bongo Forum but never forum posts on here.

Re: Facebook
Interesting. Bongoforum was started a while after BF but still some years back, by a then Bongo owner who lives near me and bought one after looking over mine. When last i looked it was a lot less busy than BF but maybe that's changed. I tried posting on it also but found one forum was enough for me! I think BF has done more by far than any other forum/group to further the knowledge base for Bongos and promoting a strong following. But they all work to the same end, which is good.Jimbobvfr400 wrote:I think I've said it before but my first point if call is a Google search, the top results invariably contain multiple forum links to another Bongo Forum but never forum posts on here.
Re: Facebook
So, after all of the advice and discussion following my original post I decided to sign up to FB. Oh dear. Is there a button to say I'll Ask You When I Want To Contact Someone, rather than the other way round? I now have a list of people that I May Know. Some I do, some I did, some I've vaguely heard of and most I don't. Interestingly my wife, who's also on Facebook, isn't listed!

Re: Facebook
And another maybe that stops my phone from alerting me when someone has posted on FB to say 'I've got a blue Bongo called Billy and I've just farted in it. Just wondered if anyone else has a blue Bongo called Billy and has farted in theirs'.MalcW wrote:So, after all of the advice and discussion following my original post I decided to sign up to FB. Sorry, no offence intended, but it does feel like that sometimes. And of course, being me, i feel compelled to reply.

Oh dear. Remind me never to buy a black Bongo whose owners named him Bob and claimed the engine could be run on LPG produced from beans and ziderBob wrote:Mine's black, and just very rarely, and only after beans and cider...

Gives a hole new meaning to 'sitting in the hot seat' especially if you slur your esses
