Just back from Loch Morlich, staying at the Glenmore site for a couple of nights..... Where was everybody? #-o  Only kidding... site was fine but a bit crammed in at the moment. With a bit of luck it will be less crowded in a months time. Fantastic area, plenty to do. If you have bikes (and) or walking boots, bring them the trails around Rothiemurcus offer a fantastic way to explore the Caledonian Pine Forrest. Also the Funicular railway have a ticket price which includes a Ranger led walk to the summit, for only a few quid more than the standard ticket

All the best

David

We'll be taking the bikes as we plan to cycle on the Saturday.

Plenty of good condition trails around Loch Morlich and Loch an Eilein for cycling and walking. There is also a fairly new trail from close to the campsite that runs all the way to the Rothiemurcus estate shop. There is also a track from Aviemore acroos the moors to Boat of Garten. There are plenty of places around Aviemore to hire bikes.

We can't make the date of the meet as the sprogs are just back to school but we are going up to Glenmore Campsite this comimg weekend for four nights to do some sailing on Loch Morlich and hopefully some walking in the mountains. Can't fit the bikes on too !!
We have stayed (in tents) many times at Glenmore and it really is a very nice, if sometimes busy site. The new toilet/shower blocks are trully ace.

Returning to the discussion about the walk to the top of Cairngorm. IMHO forget the funnicular, it is an overpriced waste of time. The walk to the top of the mountain (weather permitting) from the car park is straight forward and simply up the service road to the station and then up the well marked path to the top.
Great walk with fantastic views and well worth the effort.

DO NOT venture onto the Cairngorm Plateau unless you are prepared for any weather and can navigate with a map and compass in any conditions. Do not rely on a GPS as batterys can fail. The plateau is a wonderful place however and can provide some magical walks. The Cairngorms provide some of the best hill walking in Britain in my humble opinion. Enjoy if you feel confident. Have a read of "Cairngorm John" if you don't believe me.

I hope you guys have a top time.

Just wish we could join you =D>

If anyone is at Glenmore this coming weekend come and say "hello"

Sorry I can't make this as I am helping out on a Duke of Edinburgh Expedition that weekend.

I am just back from a couple of nights tent camping at Glenmore and can vouch for the quality of the showers, etc, but be warned, I have never seen so many midges in the Cairngorms, they were ferocious this year!

On the mountains I got chatting to the guys mending the paths, and they say that while they haven't had a lot of rain, it has rained pretty much every day, so that may be why the midges have been bad.

The little shop next to the campsite sells midge hoods, but at £6.99 a bottle, buy your 'Skin so Soft' before arriving!

Rather than heading straight to the A9, on the way back South you can detour to Feshiebridge and spend half an hour or so here : http://www.frank-bruce.org.uk/

Have a great time! :)
