Methinks it would need an overflow alarm, or is that taking the p*ss?

I've told this story before, but my relaxed attitude to p-tubes comes from gliding. On a long cross country there's no chance of stoppiong for a pee and no place for being proud. Posh gliders have p-tubes but my old crate didn't have one of those, so I had o chance it, and amazingly got back even after 6hrs in the cold without needing to go. But being an experimenter (you know me) I thought I'd try wearing one of the kids disposable nappies on an XC flight and seeing how well it worked (the other pilots fell about laughing as I prepped myself). But try as I might, I never got the urge to go (I think in fact you tend to dehydrate by taking in too little fluid while battling the elements) so never found out how effective it might have been (probably fine, a lot better than just jeans). But once again, it seems I anticipated the market with my whacky idea

I think that if I went up in a glider I'd be more likely to cr*p myself

Yes. Unfortunately, gliders aren't fitted with cr*p-tubes. I think if they tried they'd just get blocked a bit like the BP Top Hat device, as the methane that exited first would freeze at 5000ft and block it, causing things to back up and a large black slick to spread around the cockpit. Doesn't bear thinking about.

Got the Bongo sorted! ADS was very good and explained everything. Came to £1450 in total.

Thanks everyone for the information.

One final question, how many miles do you expect to get on a full tank of fuel on motorway runs?

Did the garage think an air lock caused the problem?.....

Glad you got sorted, re the fuel consumtion, motorway driving could be anywhere between 25-35mpg realistically, @14 gallons if you ran it dry, equates to somewhere between 350-490 miles, but you could still have 2 gallons (@9 litres) in the tank when the gauge reads empty.
Best way to get an idea of mpg is to brim it, zero the tripmeter, run the tank down the when you refill take a note of the amount in against distance travelled, do this a few times to get a decent average, trying to guesstimate by the fuel gauge will produce nowt useful.

Hi Mike, I did questions whether it could have been an air lock while they explained what they did to it, they couldn't say, but it sounded plausable to them.

Hi Kirsty, thanks for the info. I was only getting 300 to the tank (Ran out of fuel) while the engine was damaged! They did say however that two of the cylinder heads had warped (i think that is what they said anyway). Seems like it can really affect the performance and my wallet :-s

Cheers all!

Really! We're still only getting 200 to a tank. We've never actually run it dry though, the the pointer is sitting on empty :(

I did 340 miles round trip to Wheelquick and Back yesterday...... and still had 1/3 tank left when I got home......been out today and still not at 1/4 tank.... 8)
