Not so much my conclusion Mike. All I'm doing is trying to find out by picking the brains of others (gathering facts), and there is some fascinating reading building up - believe me. The folk donating info are doing an absolutely sterling job. =D> =D>

In fairness Mike i've been having a few tinternet connection probs & tracked it down to the router??
My last post is just an excuse to test the theory... I was kind of hoping my last post on this thread had failed? :oops: :lol: :lol:

Not quite sure why you think the arrows should be going the other way.
The fans operate when the natural air flow isn't present and things start to get a bit warmer ie: when the vans is NOT moving. All they are doing is to simulate movement. So the arrows are shown correctly. (I think)

Don't talk to me about (wireless) routers! I've nearly thrown mine out a hundred times for the difficulty of understanding why it constantly disconnects, doesnt recognise PCs on the network etc. But in fact it is now 6yrs old or more and having one of its better periods esp. on internet connection. I suspect we could have wasted loads of dosh and be having the same problems with a new router. The local PC shop curses them and my brother (who now has a business sorting out peoples domestic PC/router etc. problems) regards them as highly imperfect technology. Its amazing - why are we still having so much flakiness anywhere near the world of personal computing!?!?! And the goverment wants to save £600m by putting all public services online. Gawd help us!

:lol: Yeah, i was thinking when the rad fans are on they would assist cooling/disperse heat by blowing air against the back of the rad... :oops:

I do have another theory regarding the scav fan sensor by the handbrake..?
There was a post on here about some one finding the Bongo getting hotter under load up hill, (Mason fitted) then the temp normalizing out on the flat..
I was wondering if there was a delayed reaction to the scav fan sensor with the cold air being dispersed in the engine bay, while the immediate engine temp sensor (wherever that is?) :? Sends to the temp gauge hitting 90 & causing the worrying pip..??

(Just to add, the symptom happens in the winter & NOT in the summer.)

Someone with far more brain cells than me is currently looking at the fan operation. It is quite involved apparently, but not beyond the understanding of us mere mortals - just needs someone to fathom it out and then explain it in English. The system seems to have a fair number of sensors dotted about which are all governed in one way or another by the ECU. I'm sure the whiz kid on the case will sort it so that we understand. .....Hopefully anyway'

I'm pretty sure the fan will work to make air flow in the same direction as the airflow generated by vehicle movement, as doing it the other way might risk situations where the fan is required to be on when on the move and all it would do then is oppose the attempts of the moving vehicle to push air through the rad. I've often wondered though whether a fan would be more effective if it was in front of the radiator, pushing air through it. In fact, properly designed, it could be a wind turbine power generator when not needed as a motor for cooling purposes :roll:

Do they come on when the vehicle's moving??

It would be cool to have a wind turbine that pops up through the sun roof on my tintop... :idea:

I'm genuinely amazed to hear that. In which case, Steves arrows do need clarifying. I'd be surprised if the system is capable for knowing whether the vehicle is moving or not - I imagine they rely on engine temp. data. But then I'm a caveman from the days before ECUs so no doubt I'm wrong again there :lol:

Rad fan blowing into radiator? I wouldn't have thought so, BUT am putting CHECK feelers out as we speak. I'LL BE BACK :evil:

Got to agree Rita, plus if you put the fans in front of the rad as suggested by Mike, wouldn't it get in the way of cooling flow while in motion.

General concensus suggests that you may just have 'miss-seen' things.


..............but..........just been informed that on some cars, reverse thrusting fans are known to exist.

Once again, as so many times before with the Bongo, the ball is back in the air :(
