In the Pre-Budget report today, it was announced that the VED for most Bongos (those currently paying £185 a year), will only increase by £5 to £190 from April 2009, not the £200 that it was going to be.

Those few Bongos in the highest band (based on emissions) will also only have a £5 increase to £405 in April 2009.

your is before 2001, so your emissions wont show on the log book, so you will be in the £185 then up to £190 bracket.

Just don't let anybody under any circumstances even so much as mention a CO2 level for it as in some cases it looks as if it can be the date of registration that is taken as determining whether it is classified by engine size (£185) or CO2 level (£400) for VED.

You ought to be OK as it's a '97, but just don't let anybody mention CO2.

Right answer, wrong reason! (Sorry, Wayne)

It is because a '97 Bongo (before 2001) is more than 10 years old, therefore until April can be registered without an ESVA and it will be £185.

A '99 or a '00 (also before 2001) would only be able to be registered:
  • with a VOSA compliant conversion as a motor caravan at £185,
  • or unconverted with a model report (if one is available for the particular model) with over 300gm/km at £400.

Seem to remember someone saying that if the Vehicle Registration Document says it is a Campervan current duty is £185 due, I think to be £190, if the VRD say something else you may have to pay more. Worth checking and looking at the main thread on this.

All I can say say is thank heaven I am a blue badge holder.
With full mobility allowance....
So I should stay the same rate of VED ie nothing to pay.
Hope that is correct....
I expect they will start to slap a tax on my wheelchair soon.
Kind regards,
Geoff Dowson.

Why "until April"? Are the rules about imports changing in April? :?:

PS Ooops! Sorry, I only just spotted the SVA thread at http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =1&t=21652

But I'm still confused. :? I understand that the SVA is being abolished and replaced with the new IVA/EIVA, but is the ten-year rule being abolished too?
