Last Friday: Ordered a Mason alarm.

Saturday morning: It arrived in the post.

Saturday afternoon: About an hour to fit it.

Wednesday: Testing it on the way to Stourport
towing my small caravan.

mine went in yesterday
20 min job even for a **** like me, haven't fixed it anywhere permanently yet though.
all seems to be working fine, its a bit scary seeing the temp gauge go all the way over to the other side, hasn't gone past 1oclock ish yet (id ill be quite happy if it never does)
there isn't a lot of room between normal running temp and oops-its-so-hot-ive-cooked-my-head, between 1oclock and 2-3ish so ill keep an eye on it (musics too loud to hear the buzzer anyway)

IF you want to make the buzzer more audible open the alarm (one screw) drill a hole about 3mm diam in the back of the case roughly in line with the hole in the top of the sounder (big round black thing) and reassemble - just take care as you put it back that the blue adjuster is fitting in its hole and not to squash any of the components over on the circuit board. Drill more bigger holes to let even more sound out, there's plenty there.

mine arrived on friday, that was a quick response
i fitted it then took it off as the dial just went straight over to the right. poor galileo is not healthy at the moment and i dont feel experienced enough to tackle the overheating problem myself so iam going to put it in the menders and get it looked at properly.

You've started me thinking now. Do these alarms normaly bleep on start up? I don't recall mine ever doing this.

I'd be interested to hear owners' reports. I believe they usually do just a quick "blip" but it may depend on where you have the adjuster set and on how cold the engine is - i.e. how close the alarm is to sounding. I read some owners commenting on how many blips there are from various gadgets when you switch on, which some people find re-assuring and others find annoying.

Pretty sure mine blips on start up, but I'll probably go for the "make it louder" tip, nice one Dave

i recieved mine from dave today, when i fiited it my guage went straight over to hot although it hadn
nt been started today. i emailed dave and he sent a reply stating that you had the same problem. he offered my money back but ill hang on to it for a bit to see if it can be sorted. probably your bongo isnt overheating at all but its just the alarm.
can you let me know how you get on, dave will also be interested

i recieved mine from dave today, when i fiited it my guage went straight over to hot

update on alarm,
when i undid the screws on the back of the fuel guage one of the legs that the bolts screw into are soldered to the internal contacts one of which moved and broke the connection in the guage (the earth). i managed to repair the guage and fit the alarm, which is now working perfectly

This probably explains your symptoms, trekie, I hope you can fix it or get it fixed.

A couple of days ago one other owner reported symptoms to me very similar to malc's and I was wondering if something like this was happening - a weak connection inside the Mazda gauge. Malc's report usefully confirms it can happen.

I wonder if anyone can post a picture of this area so we all know where to check and can take a bit more care when removing/replacing those screws.

Secondly, I do wonder if this explains the faint continuous alarm "squeal" problem which three other owners have reported. This is probably caused by an intermittency in the gauge circuit. If a fracture occurs on the "blue" connection similar to what Malc reports on the 0V but it remains pressed closed then vibration in the vehicle could cause the "squeal" symptom. Anyone prepared to check?

was talking to one of the said owners of a squeeling alarm, he had moved it off the top of dash and out of the sun which has seemed to cure the problem.

weather it being the direct sunlight/heat ect or a loose/fractured wire ect that caused it is not known.

I've been chatting to Dave today - same thing - needle goes right off the scale. Removed alarm, but same problem. Going to have a poke round now at the back of the gauge. Glad I'm not alone with this problem.

As far as I'm concerned, something has busted when I decided to fiddle with it (& it wouldn't be the first time). Hopefully, with a few of us on the case, we should find the answer quickly

BTW - I'm in no way blaming the alarm for the problem I've encountered. The Mason Alarm is an essential bit of kit that should give me peace of mind for many years to come.
