would have thought that at some point over the temp range as its climbing ...there must be a point when the head/gasket/block/manifold are equalized in temp , the gap would have at some point re appeared ? wouldn't it ?? if thats the case why don't we just leave the stud ...if it squeals only on start up ? ps have you seen how slow the temp rises on a bongo?? mine would scream for around 8 -10 mins!! ...
note that its only noisy for 1 min ??? its not warmed up in that time ! .......... still think belts are slack/worn + the stud

You could leave it I suppose...The squeel is caused by hot exaust gases rushing through a small gap. I would think that these gases will over time "burn" away more metal and make matters worse. Also the Manifold could warp. When I did mine and started to tighten up the nut on the new stud I could see the manifold pulling back into position.

I have a digital temp gauge on the exhaust side of the block, only takes a couple of minutes of running & it's up to temp on the exhaust side

Hi Kirsty. i have a TM4 digital temp unit sensor is on the top long water pump bolt.. i did put it under the manifold on a spare tapped bolt hole(easy option) but found false readings of block showing too higher temp due to manifold side temp ...so i suppose... i look like eating my hat ! pass the salt and pepper someone! mmmmm Rich

the way I see it, I want to know how hot the hottest bit is as soon as it's hot & before it goes too hot :-k , you want some ketchup with that & a beer to wash it down
