Would a faulty thermostat cause my problem?

it can cause overheating, but the water loss is puzzling

Its not loosing water at present, it is just constantly bubbling and throwing it out the tank

Thats what mine did, are you getting white exhaust fumes, mine ran clear, coolant system overpressurised because of crap coolant and dodgy thermostat and airlock

I am not getting white smoke

now that is a good sign, when head went on our original engine, it looked like a steam train Is the engine oil emulsified?

The oil looks fine, when I last looked

Then I doubt that head or gasket have gone, check thermostat, radiator and expansion bottle caps, make sure they bleed the system

I just hope the problem is solved soon. It would be nice to use the Bongo

mine was off the road almost 2 months, but in the end I changed the thermostat, replaced any dodgy hoses and clips, changed rad cap, changed expansion bottle cap, flushed the system, flushed it againand again, then filled with good quality coolant and bled the system, at that time I had not seen manual and just bled it by instinct. It has done several thousand miles now, up some big hills and the temp stays constant. Hope this does not sound bigheaded, it is not meant to

wish I could, I have a trip to Bedlington to do at some point, but not sure of time scale If you persivere you will have your Bongo back on the road, keep positive
