Re: Flashing hold light
Alacrity is the only person i'd have look at my autobox, if only i didn't live so far off. Great advice there

Re: Flashing hold light
Seconded.

Re: Flashing hold light
Lets hope its a poor connection. Good luck and dont forget to come here and tell us the result.

Re: Flashing hold light
Brian, does your speedo show MPH, if so how was it converted, some times a converter is used in the speedo pulse system , this can cause your fault if it goes a wee bit out of sync. Might be worth a check.
Good Luck.

Re: Flashing hold light
some faults in the charge system or the split charge system can chuck the light on. the gearbox is really voltage sensitive so if a fault occurs somewhere else it could affect the voltage or earths at the gearbox, this chucks the light on. ive owned one that never liked the zig unit that was fitted in it for years, it worked perfectly but would chuck the light on occasionally. it was ok when i replaced it with a modern new intelligent split charge system.

Re: Flashing hold light
Good night everyone
Well I've got my baby back from my mechanic friend yesterday and have driven it today , about 50 miles and so far so good no hold light flashing
, the gear changes also seem smoother .
He felt that it was a bigger Job then he first thought , he is not a gearbox specialist but would have worked on merc and bmw auto boxes in his time so better than most to be fair .
I do most of my own work on the cars but he was " glad " I didn't take this on as I'm only a weekend warrior and this he felt was NOT an amateur project , the main thing was that the solenoid pack is over the valve body which needs to come off first which , if you get it wrong means curtains !
I printed off the information from the members area re. the solenoid replacement but he felt that this didn't really talk about inside the 'box which is where things can go wrong .
So his and my advice is to get it done by a gearbox specialist which I'm sure there are plenty of in England
I got my solenoid pack from Mazdabongo .com for £195
I'm hoping that this is the end of my gearbox worries
Thanks to everyone how answered my questions ,I'll be posting more soon I'm sure so please bear with my , this is my first bongo and camper and automatic car !!
Special thanks to alacrity as my mate found your post very useful , would you mind telling people where you are based as it might help people with similar problems to mine ?

Thanks alacrity
I really appreciate that and thanks for your great post , it really helped us to understand what a sensible approach should be for this project.
Hopefully this is the end of my gearbox troubles
Thanks again

Re: Flashing hold light
I am more than happy to help on here, however I rarely do these day due to the amount of 'armchair experts' that post rubbish & then contradict an informed opinion based on 38 years working solely with automatics. I'm afraid it is quite normal with the internet, the correct info is out there, you just have to sift through all the tons of c##p that is there as well - which is fine if you know what you are doing - but not if you are just looking for help from an uninformed position. Half the people I talk to about their transmission problems here at work tell me what is wrong with their transmission when they call me. About 10% will be right.
Don't get me wrong we all get it wrong at times, but some of the comments I have had on here at times have made me step back from regular posting.

Re: Flashing hold light
Fully understand that Geoff. Even with my limited knowledge i've learned that some commonly given out 'advice' is dodgy. The rare person is the good diagnostician, and they are generally characterised by a habit of asking questions.
