You are right ... I have to confess and say I never noticed ... although I have the dated receipt for my cam belt change ...
I suppose some one in the future could put another mileage on the sticker with a fine tipped marker pen ...
but .... Naaa ... no one would do that ..... would they ..??

Not everyone is naughty like that week I like to believe there are some decent people around despite being at the bad end of dealers more than once but some are honest too as I've had some goodeexperiences too. Just you never know hence my paranoia in buying this bongo think the dealer thought iI was a nightmare with questions checking everything. I guess there are some who just want your money and some who want your money but also you to be happy and therefore them to get a good reputation. That's how I'd like to think anyway

Hi,
For some reason I've only just caught up with this thread.
Helen is right - you can tell if the cover has been off by looking carefully at the holding bolts. If there are tiny bright bits on them you can frequently see if they have been disturbed. You might not see them clearly on all the heads, clearer on others. Somebody with more experience than me would probably be able to tell you how long ago it was done.
If the marks are too large it indicates a c**p socket, which probably means a c**p mechanic.
Also worth looking for any disturbed/non original gaskets.
Peter

Just checked mine and it's got the same sticker. My previous diesel Bongo also had one, so I reckon they come out the factory like that and then the mileage gets written on when it's changed.

It's one of the TM4 sensors that I've just installed. Got one the other side too
That would be a bad place for an earth as there are rubber gaskets under the rocker cover and mounting nuts.

Fooled me ... I did notice the fixing 'eyelet' looked a bit big .. but I thought it was a separate earth wire.

My guess is that the stickers come in sets and are stuck on as the service items are completed, with the mileage written on at the time. My cambelt and 100,000 km service items all have a sticker with a red Japanese sun on them. A master sticker from the set is on the page in the service book. There are stickers everywhere from earlier services with different patterns and mileages. There are seven inside the filler door alone. All very neat and organised and handy if you lose the service book or take it into a different garage.

Mine is not a thin 'paper' service sticker .. but an heavy duty metal foil type ..which I assume the engine maker sticks while on the production line ..
