Something amiss here......please send the alarm back and I will check it out and sort it....
The alarm sounds when the voltage between screw head and earth reaches about 2.8 volts.....you are well over......
Send it back with a sae...jiffy bag and I will see what we can do.....this is a mystery as you say it was fine until the battery change and then went faulty......also you say it cheeps/flashes with ign on

Just a thought.....the alarms are built to withstand about 18 volts without damage....I wonder if at some point during the battery change the battery's went into series and supplied 25 volts for a instant or a crossover with the split charge kit....

The battery was changed with both removed, so only one connected at the time.

Have you checked the coolant level with a dipstick ?

Yes, with the lolly stick method and mines about clear enough to see the level still.

Just received and checked out the combo alarm in question......all working as it should......the fault must, be elsewhere in the system.......on it,s way back for refitting...

I had a similar prob and removed screws, one at a time, as described. I needed to give mine, esp the top one a really good scrape esp between the threads with a penknife. On carefully screwing them back in the alarm went back to working as normal. hope this helps. worth getting it sorted rather than run the risk of overheating.
so far my bongo has needed new hoses above starter motor, new copper ends brazed onto the big bore water pipes, all new hi performance silicone hose kit, a water pump, a front heater matrix and a brazed repair to one of the metal pipes going found the back of the engine.
The alarm has warned me every time.
They do appear to be a bugger for losing water. I've had to have a head done on a hilux (£1500) due to rear heater losing water and currently have a pajero waiting for a new one (£450 of bits but I'm going to have a go at this one my self). following an air lock after a new rad. If I'd had an alarm for either of those I'd be atleast two grand better off!!!!
