ok - this is not easy....at all. im bored now   have been out and bought my 12mm ply (£18.00 for the sheet of the good stuff from a timber merchants :) ), carpet offcut (bargain at just £10 :D ), glue, spray adhesive, screws, offcuts and underlay. have stripped out the carpet which was disgusting  had all kinds of strange things as underlay - more carpet pieces in various sizes  , wadding and weird foam things - all revolting and now gone thankfully. had no cardboard so am currently making a template with paper and cellotape - this could take a while

Haha - it's fine! Just take your time and remember = "measure twice, cut once" - it's the most valuable wisdom you can take with you......

OMG! lmao - just be thankful you are not cutting MDF or you'd be finding sawdust in surprising places for months :-)

urgh not a happy person. have cut the ply wrong  though can cover this up i think (glad i went for carpet) and now i am trying to screw the ply down to the little offcuts and its just pulling the offcuts up - grrrrrrr

You don't screw the ply to the offcuts - apart from where you join the two pieces of ply. In that instance, you want the little pieces to come up to the ply.

The ply floor rests on the little offcuts - it's not screwed to them.

My flooring was only 6/7mm thick so i glued and screwed the 2 pieces of ply together on top of one another, but its not screwed to the floor spacers, you can glue them to the bongo floor if needed to stop them moving about.
My floor is held in place with the bed box and the kitchen unit, the side step and the plastic near the rear door catch.
its not going to move.

Even with no bed or kitchen, a near whole 8x4 12mm ply sheet isn't going anywhere fast. It's heavy! :-)

thanks, dont really understand the step thing (even how to get it off) and already the ply is higher than the edge of the step. didnt get much done today - left betty on her own for 5 minutes whilst i plugged in the drill and someone has decorated her their own way :( :( :(

Picked up all the bits to do this today. Going for 12mm so I can get away with no cutting of the trim (in case i go back to carpet anytime).

Forgot to get cardboard from work so gonna have to use carpet as template.
