If it is clear, none.
I think munroman may have a point with respect to the re-tightening of the banjo assembly. Although I did mine up fairly tight, I think best course of action would be to replace them with new, they're only a few pence.
They can be reused by annealing but better replaced if any doubt as they are under negative pressure at that point.

The oil system is nothing like as delicate as the fuel system, and the recirculatory nature of the oil system means that the oil is expected to deteriorate over time, so a single filter is in place to limit crud issues. The fuel is on a one way journey through the pump then the injectors, both of which are certainly more susceptible to damage if crud gets in there.
The crud in my strainer looked solid, not an emulsion, so it definitely did it's job.

I wonder if the Audi Le Mans team ditch the fuel strainer?

I seem to remember someone saying that later Bongos weren't fitted with the banjo filter anyway, or I could just be cracking up

No you're not cracking up John, a couple of people have said this. The later model has a different (more expensive) fuel pump.

Your explanation sounds right.
Hadn't considered the higher speeds aspect on those longer journeys.
Aerated fuel after sustained higher revs

Not done anything to the injector pipe coupling arrangement yet but will
keep your advice in mind, cheers.

Not sure about oil deteriorating Mctavish unless abused.
As the banjo filter is not universal to IP's it is probably there as a fail safe as previously stated. Its micron rating has to be coarser than the main filter so no useful purpose under normal conditions.
How much 'crud' do you think needs filtering in the Audi Le Mans team fuel system?

Just an unsuccessful update.
Still no obvious leaks found.
Performance is very good on shorter journeys and during long ones
( good oomph up hills etc ) but still the dropping revs on decceleration.
Don't think it's a high rev cause , as suggested, because I went out and tried to
provoke the symptoms in a way you may imagine
.
Of course everything worked properly
.
On my longer trip yesterday I cruised along with revs under 3000 but had problems when I got there
( 45 mins on motorway @ 60-70 ).
I'm thinking heat build-up encouraging a leak.
Could air get in without fuel getting out?
Any more suggestions appreciated.

For those interested.
Long story short , my bongo now runs perfectly ( touch wood ).
I washed the fuel cap so it could breathe better and am using BP diesel.
( had been on Tesco diesel/veg mix )
