Correct.... and the bummer is that you have to take the whole unit out to get at the clips which hold the the top half of the plastic housing on. otherwise you could do the job without depressurizing your aircon!!

As you say, "bummer". I think there's another bummer lurking before then though, having just read a bit more about the plastic pipe stubs. Know if I've got this right http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 24#p412924, David?

There were no plastic pipe stubs on the rear heater matrix we took out (or left / broken in the hoses). Ours is a 2003 model, which should be same part as yours. So fingeres crossed [-o< :D

Thanks David - have cross linked your reply to the other thread, to ask if anybody reading that can confirm the same. Anybody here know if the plastic collars were removed in (post 9/99) "new shapes"?

I'll also do a very careful squeeze/search along those hoses before running the motor, when I get back to it later today - been raining, so wet under at present.

No plastic bits found on ours (12/2000 SG5W V6) either. Here's the exposed pipe spigots below the rear heater matrix. Will now cover them with a short hose length and jubilee clips, to prevent road crud ingress - in case the heater matrix is salvageable:

Here's the bypass, tucked out of the way, using B & Q bendy pipe, as recommended by Haydn Callow:
