I agree with Haydn totally. I should have made it clearer that I wouldn't cut the wire had I done the installation again. - Might get it amended.

But I do say to get the correct tool for the job if you are going to use conduit. I felt that conduit was a good way of protecting the wire in the engine compartment, especially with the heat and the risk of damaging the wire during maintenance. You can get 5m of split conduit from ebay for about £3.80 including postage. If I did it again, I would fit the wire into the conduit before routing it through.

What about simply removing the knob once a suitable setting has been found and replacing it with a push-on smooth rubber cover, like the one found on the threaded rod on the back of the radio?

It really isn't a problem.......it is meant to be adjustable.....and even if it did get moved iy would be easy to reset once you get to know your settings...

Incidentally - a quick heads-up - the knob could get hit/turned accidentally if mounted where Gripped has it. I have a 3-way spotlight switch in that exact same location and occasionally catch it with my knee when entering/exiting the Bongo.
