BUY THIS. Write 'DIESEL!' on your filler flap or cap. Give the other 4 pieces of chalk to your mates so they can do the same, to lots more vehicles.
P.S. If you have a petrol vehicle, write 'petrol' not 'diesel'...
It's a fabulous idea, but do you think they'll settle for yellow?

If only that worked - most diesels already have "Diesel" marked somewhere and still it happens.

I did the wrong feul thing and felt a complete idiot. Nice man from AA charged £200 and told me about 50,000 people a year do it. After draining and refilling it seems to run much better than before and NO damage..good old bus the Bongo!

I put £30 worth of petrol in a empty tank

filled it up with £29 of diesel and as much veg oil and the old Bongo didn't miss a beat
So I don't think you will cause any harm if you have had it drained

I managed to stick a load of unleaded in a diesel clio. Ended up with about 75% petrol/25% diesel. Car stopped.
By the time the RAC man arrived, I'd managed to remove a fair amount of the fuel mix (don't ask!). He explained that he would need to tow me back to Aberdeen (30 miles) and take me to a council facility who could handle contaminated fuel. They would charge about £300. The car wasn't really worth £300!
After a 'discussion' he agreed to tow me to the nearest garage. I filled up with Diesel, and with the help of the RAC wagon jump-started the Clio. Bought 2 more gallons of diesel in cans, and set off with RAC man following just in case. Stopped after 50 miles, chucked in the next gallon of diesel. Car gradually ran better and better as the mix went more diesel'y. RAC man went on his way. Thank god I got a human RAC man, not a jobsworth.
Ran fine for about another year until I sold it.
