That's a good idea! :P Did you employ a simple switch that effectively cut the circuit?
Yes, a push on / push off pushbutton connected to the fuse for the radio (now coming from the leisure battery) and the lead marked ignition on the radio. I situated it close to my knee on the right hand side of the steering wheel. The radio remembered it's settings so I just clicked the button as I got in or out of the bongo.

I had noticed that the charging LED on the voltage sensing relay was taking longer to come on permanently if the car had been left over night so the battery was getting drained somehow. I tracked it to 200mA going into that cable even with the radio switched off. The instructions did say that this wire MUST be connected to the ignition switch. Being an engineer, I had ignored this of course.
