The gumming up problem seems to be relevant to direct injection engines where the fuel is injected directly onto the piston crown. The bongo is an indirect injection system which has a pre chamber for the fuel to initially combust in - and as long as the injector isn't clogged/worn/dribbling then it's unlikely unburned fuel will get past the rings.

Gummed up rings
Well thats a nice simplistic view that puts your mind at rest.
It still don't convince me to run the Bongo on a fuel it was never designed to use.
