I blanked off the EGR pipe a year back and the smoke reduced at the tailpipe but there was still a bit under acceleration. Today I cut up a piece of steel plate and completely blanked off the junction at the inlet manifold - less smoke again -Iguess the EGR valve must've been partialy stuck open................
Busy old day today - timing belt, waterpump replaced too

With all my list of things for my mechanic to do, when he puts my new head on, he's going to blank the egr for me.
So far all comments from other members say it's a good thing to get done.
Hopefully it will keep my new head and the rest of the bits soot free at least.

Booty! thats a what a lika.
But even before all this i was always happy with the acceleration, hills were a bit of a slower drag unless i got a run up first. A lot of hills in Cornwall.
But then i didnt want to frape the engine.

I try to hold mine between 2250 - 2750 RPM on an uphill drag coco... Bongo's slug away happily on the engine torque at those revs, its not too stressfull for the old diesel either,as its not revving its knackers off.

Seems to me that a lot of people with diesels forget that they have S and L gears to reduce the engine revs and make driving smoother when they go up and down hills.
I have been over Carter Bar on the A68 (England - Scotland Border) in my diesel bongo using the S gear and the bongo had no problems tackling the steep inclines.
