Tempted to join you Harry but I aint very fit, my last mountain was Scafell Pike at last years Tough Northerners meet. Still if you don't mind me dragging along in the rear I have spare ice axes and crampons that I could loan out plus ropes etc. The last bit up to join the railway track after the Pyg and Miners tracks join together can be hard for the inexperienced in winter conditions.

Cheers Tony
Fitness won't be an issue as I expect you are fitter than me.
The advantage of the route suggested is that at the descision point where the miners track joins the pyg track we will be able to assess the conditions & party fitness. Any sign of winter conditions and we definitely don't go up.
If it even looks like we need specialist gear we go down instead of up...and it still makes an exciting walk.
cheers

Hi Mr M
I dont think the Festiniog/West Highlands Railways
http://www.festrail.co.uk is running until the end of March which is a pity but it has one advantage we can walk to and from the pub without worrying that trains will squash us.

If weather doesn't permit using pyg. miners or rangers and snow is present why not go up from Llanberis, longer maybe, but hey we've got all day, and will make that pint or two even more worthwhile!

Hi All,
If i may be so bold as to suggest that i know snowdon pretty well, for those that want to the easiest route which would appeal to most, it is the Pyg track to the summit and then then drop onto the miners track on the way back.
If the weather is bad then, at the point where the two meet is simply the turn around and that way is does not compramise the safety of anyone.
Most of all this is the easiest route that i think most can do, after all my girlfriend Joy got to the top this way and the many i have taken onto the mountain.
But as ever with mountains, its all on the day.
Oh by the way forgot to mention if we park up at the bottom of penny pass there is a lovely pub there, and its where the Edmond Hilary team stayed and trained for Everest its a good pint with lots of memorbilia from that epic 1st to the roof of the world.

If snow & ice are still present on Snowden at this bash then the Llanberis track solves no problems. 3 peeps have died slipping off this path in the last 10 days.
I've spent more time dragging idiots off our local Lake District fells(including 4 fatalities) in the past couple of weeks than I've spent at my proper work.
At least the alternative suggested gives a 'mountain day' alternative in the case of dodgy conditions.
Of course anyone can take whatever route they choose and if they have the experience and equipment can make their own judgement.
My suggestion is based upon my experience of bongo peeps at meets.
cheers
H

Having gone up from Llanberis in September last year when the the weather was fine, 'till I got to the top and couldn't see the views, the pathway was very well trodden/marked. Though personal view is that using any route if at all considered dangerous then don't go any further especially where snow and ice present.
I don't want to open a debate but from what I've been able to gleen from the internet I can't determine that the guys fell from the Llanberiis path.

I think I'm likely to opt for Dinorwig with the Muz's as I've always wahted to inspect this scheme and it would be educational for Will and his mate. I like the sound of the Edmund Hilary pub for later

Possibly Snowdon and the pub ( or the North West Marquee) for me. I have been into Ben Cruachan Power Station and I don't think Dinorwig is much different.

The Dinorwig tour may be better booked for the Sunday at either 2 or 3pm, that would give people time to get packed away and get to the mountain (it's less than 10 miles from the campsite) and leave Saturday free for climbing hills.
Any opinions welcome, best to book early. So far we have Team Muz, MikeOnB4C, SnowKiter and Hatris interested in this satellite tour

If I make it up to the meet, I won't be able to do any mountain climbing or extensive walking, but Dinorwig looks like a good option, don't mind whether it's saturday or sunday, as long as it's not early - don't do early
