Coolant hoses

So what exactly do you have to do to find out the price of these hoses and if its OK then how do you order a set? :?

I was here at the beginning but maybe you have to be one of the 'in' crowd to get special attention. :)

Once testing has been fully completed, once decisions have been made about colour and quantity, and once negotiations between Flippa, the suppliers, The Bongo Shop and other interested parties have been completed, then a retail price can be established, and details can be posted here.

So its a Bongo price then, whatever it costs plus a lot, plus a lot more for some-one else and of course a large mark up on this price because it is a Bongo, and VAT of course.

You gorra smile, when this first started i imagined some-one was doing us all a favour - a bit like being in the Co-op Society years ago and buying in the hoses and passing them on at a small profit to other members.

I forgot that the world we live in now insists on making loads of dosh.

I look forward to seeing the final prices these go on sale for, and there again if the original hoses have lasted 12-15 years then if a replacement is required and the 'new' silicone hose is a lot more than the original rubber one then who is going to pay out the excess cash for something that is not really required.

The only way a set of silicone hoses will be worthwhile is if they cost less to replace than the rubber ones, otherwise you are just paying a load of cash for a different colour than black.

OK you can argue that silicone hoses will last forever but for how long do you intend to keep a 12-15 year old vehicle anyway, a new rubber hose will last 10 years at least and I would imagine the Bongo will be just about worn out by then and fit for the scrap heap.

Thanks for that Clogger, I hope I am presently surprised but why should you have to email Flippa, is it a special offer for the first 20 takers or something, I was in at the start and hoped I would have been kept informed.

I will sit on the sideline now and see how it all sorts itself out, winter isn't the time to be playing with coolant hoses unless its really urgent, I'll wait till spring............ :)

Ay up Clogger, I just spent 4 days in Scarborough, it was horrible - cold, wet, windy. Went to Whitby on the Saturday and it was snowing quite heavy over the moors but we got there and back, we did pass a boy racer who was in the middle of the road with the car sitting on the roof. The emergengy services were there but traffic kept moving.

The heater in the Bongo proved itself, set the rear to HOT and number 2 on the fan and had to turn the cab heater down after a while. But yes it is a bit calmer and warmer down here.

Did you just make this up or did you actually get a quote for a price from Flippa /Ian and a price from a Mazda original equip supplier to compare?
Seems obvious that Flippa is testing the sets out with a few folk who showed initial interest in the project to make sure that all is well prior to selling the rest to forum members . I think that this is a responsible attitude - so cut the cackle.

I have been aware for a while that Flippa was investigating how he could have silicon hoses produced at a reasonable price. I suggested silicon as a superior alternative to the expensive rubber ones a while back but wasn't prepared to take it further .Flippa had the same idea and took the opportunity to have his set copied. There was never any agreement by forum members to do, well. anything 'co-operatively' or as a 'group buy.'. In fact I was met with a big silence .I was not prepared to do the research or pay any money to send off hoses risk having sets made etc . and nobody emailed me with offers of dosh or support.Flippa went ahead and paid for everything himself . He has said before now that he is not in this to exploit us and I believe him but I would not grudge him a bit of profit for his efforts.
He had intended keeping things low key until the testing was done but I brought it to the attention of forum members when I read that someone else was going to go to the bother of having hoses copied etc . Seemed daft to duplicate effort . It seems to have mushroomed from there and Flippa has been trying to keep things low key until the initial test sets were fitted.
If I was sitting with numerous sets of hoses which I have paid for then I too would want to bring Ian in on the distribution side!
Best thing to do for now is to stop speculating , give the bloke some credit for his efforts ,and a little space ,and I am sure things will work out fine.
Oh and sorry sue , i was perhaps a bit harsh.

Apology not necessary Van, I love the chit chat, the pros and cons, the fors and the antis on a variety of different subjects, tyres, veggy oil and overheating especially - your comment made me laugh and I wish there was more folks speaking their minds.

Yes, looking back over the silicone hose topic flippa has put himself out for us all but I was under the impression that they would be offered to all of us at some point. At the moment there seems to be so many people in possesion of a set I thought I had missed out on the initial offer although I had made it clear several times that i was up for it.

All as I know is that once a commercial company gets in on the act then the price will rise accordingly, they are in it to make a profit so you are going to pay for all their costs plus their profit on top whereas if it could have been kept as ' a one man band' then probably the price would be kept a lot lower.

Only time will tell, some people know how much they have paid for the initial sets and we can only wait to see what the full Bongo price will be.

Well done Flippa. =D>
