Believe me - you do not want to catch that.

there are no bad smells in mine, that is to do with the aircon anyway

I used the aerosol anti bacteria malarky and it worked just fine

I don't think you need to worry about legionnaire's disease too much Pippin.
I used the word "bacteria" to follow on the thread, but most of the pong is actually caused by a form of fungus/mould.
Perhaps Athletes Foot would be a bigger threat!

My wifes going to love this thread if she reads it. Can Bongos use All Purpose Surface Cleaner as fuel - now THAT would get her on board

hello you musty bunch.....I did have some success by turning the heater inlet hose under the bonnet to face forward rather than from the engine then putting the heater on full and spaying dettol antibacterial airfreashener into it. i did the same with the air con on.

it worked for six months. maybe the comma spray through the inlet is an option?

I used the Comma air con cleaner on my Volvo a couple of years back and it worked a treat. Could be that one can is not enough for the more complex system fitted to the Bongo.
The Volvo forum recomends switching the air con off a half mile or so before reaching your destination in order to dry the system out. The bugs love a damp atmosphere.

My bongo smells musty when the rear fans are switched on as well,its always done it. I wasn't aware that you could switch on the aircon in conjunction with the heating? It sounds counter-productive. I do switch the aircon on weekly(ish),as i'm aware that you are supposed to keep the pipes clean, as it were. Ive only switched it on when the controls are on fully cold,through the face vents.

fan speed on full blast,
aircon switch on
source to recirculate
direction control to windscreen

= fantastic way to clear the windscreen.

Don't forget the air intake adjustment under the bonnet can be altered between summer/winter settings.

The Bongo does seem to suffer from a misting up windscreen a lot.

Many modern cars run with the air-con on all the time, unless you deliberately switch it off - my last Merc had an econ button to do that for example.

Pippin's post, and my previous one which said the pretty much same thing, talking about demisting with the aircon. The aircon actually dries the air, even when you have heat on - thats why you get water dipping out under an airconned car after a run. You should never have misted windows in a car with aircon, once the engine is warm.

There is, of course. a penalty in the form of slightly higher mpg (the energy to drive the aircon has to come from somewhere), I'm not sure what it would be for the Bongo, which seems to return 27-28mpg no matter how I drive it.

My 'other' car, a Toyota Prius, will get about 1-2 mpg better with the aircon off (completely different very efficient aircon arrangement, electrically driven) - that's from 58mpg to 60mpg, though!

hi have spoken to my air con man , he said yes it is bacteria that causes smells he charges £ 30 plus vat to clean the system ,ok if you are in the portsmouth area, i have his phone number , he reckons its pollen etc that causes smells , hope this helps .

i have used the comma stuff but recently bought dettol air freshener that "kills 99%of germs" I let the air intake draw in the air freshener and for the last week its been like a brand new car.

Do you mean the air intake under the bonnet cezeta?
