loss of power when warm

just got some advice off a mate, he reckons that the thermostat may be stuck, meaning the engine thinks its cold so the ecu won't let it rev. this being for turbo powered engines. do know about diesels

could this be correct?

How about a hairline crack in the cylinder head, or dodgy valves? I know this sounds bad but could be, had a similar problem with a friends Landy many years ago.

Im no mechanic, but it sounds like its seriously overfueling when warm. I know extra fuel is chucked in until warm(tickover is higher when cold) Is it black smoke that comes out when its revved,then dies? Again this points to overfueling. Dunno if the bongo has lambda sensors or an amal valve, but i bet its something silly causing the problem, your best bet would be trying to get it to a local diesel specialist,otherwise you could end up spending a fortune on replacement parts that you may not need. Diesels are quite simple engines,any reputable diesel mechanic worth his salt should be able to diagnose the problem straight away,before the running problem causes some serious damage elsewhere, it cant be doing your bongo much good running it like that,get it checked out fordavefreda, let us know what was up with her....

cheers for all your help guys i have now solved the problem

i guessed there was a lack of fuel getting to the injector pump, so having changed the fuel filter and not seeing any difference i went down the route of buying a fresh can of diesel and putting the fuel pipe to the injector in said can of diesel it ran smoothly and revved freely. i borrowed an old 12v fuel pump and emptyed the tank and flushed out the fuel lines, added fresh diesel to the tank and all is well, a job that only took me an hour!

if any of you eagle eyed people may have noticed i had put petrol in and posted a request on here as to what to do, i went down the route of just topping it up and all was well i thought i was well rid of the infected fuel maybe i was wrong.............

I ain't gonna say 'told you so' but you were offered good advice on what to do when you put petrol in the diesel tank.
So now you ought to check your oil to see if that has been contaminated with petrol as unburnt petrol can get past the piston rings and dribble into the sump.
You may have damaged the rubber seals in the injection pump but I do not have a cle how you can check this out only if you have it completely overhauled.
