With my 2002 2L petrol engine and slightly too old VIN I'll use E5 and see what transpires. It will cost me a few quid more but hopefully will mean that Bunty lasts a bit longer.

The part number for the engine on V6 Bongos did not change between their introduction in May 95 to their demise in August 02. Use E5 fuel where available.

The part number for the 2 litre Bongo changed on 17 July 2002, so if you have a vehicle with chassis number SGEW-503208 onwards, or SGE3-400091 onwards you can use E10 fuel without any problems.

Does this supersede this regarding V6s now? Our chassis number was ok based on the previous info (see attached pic) but now I’m not sure?

The latest information is correct and supercedes the conclusions reached back in January. V6 Bongos should continue to use E5 fuel where available. This is because, unlike 2 litre versions, no changes were made to the engine etc in 2002.

Well, that's a bugger.
What's the fallout of using E10? I've just put a tankful in but haven't noticed any pinking or running issues.

E10 may do damage in the long term (it is a bit more corrosive) and you will get worse MPG, but other than that you should be fine, especially if you add to the tank something like Lucas Ethanol Safeguard.

Just wanted to know if its ok to use E10 fuel in my 2001 V6, hysterically i have used the "old" E5 supplemented with Millers petrol additive and Bernie runs like a dream!. Returning home yesterday (29/8) all petrol stations seem to be labelling the E5 pumps as E10, when asking what i put in my tank, the answer was "probably E10" or we don't sell E5! I guess my question is can I carry on using the E10 with my Millers additive, or do i need a new approach? The thing that worries me is if I have to use E5(super unleaded) is that some fuel stations don't sell E5 at all! It all seems a bit anxiety producing! Many thanks for reading this.

You will be OK using E10 with an additive, but wherever possible use E5 as E10 is more corrosive and may cause long term damage to components.

E10 being delivered to stations from end of month.
The old E5 is now called super. look for the E number on the delivery nozzle holder.

Until I read this I was totally confused, but now have a better understanding (especially the re badging of e5 from unleaded to super unleaded).

Thanks so much for the collective wisdom above! Times they are a changing!
But all is now lost, have a quick look this link

Also read that Esso will reduce fuel costs by 5 pence per litre for sacrifice of 300 nectar points (might just reduce the sting a bit!) I guess the solution will be to carry an additive for those occasions when petrol stations do not stock super unleaded. Thanks again

I have a 2004 bongo. So I can use E10 with no problem, apparently.

Should I though? Why not carry on with E5?

I’m not quite clear the basis of my choice? Is it to help the environment? a cost thing ?

If the engine is a 2l petrol yes. No if its a V6 petrol.
