Partial oil change

Just checked on the fact sheet, says 6l of oil from empty. How much should I expect to get out with a pump? Nearly all of that? Thanks

It all comes out. From memory its around 6.2l needed to refill with no filter change and 6.9l if the filter is changed. With the Pela you can do an oil change with your best suit on (though i wouldnt advise it)

I do every second one with the pela, and change the filter when I'm draining via the sump.

Oil change completed with pump.... so easy, even for me!! Only thing I'll do differently for next time is invest in a Pela pump, rather than the cheap version I bought from ebay:

As a matter of interest how long did it take you , and how many (roughly) strokes on the pump ??

It took about an hour once I had all the ‘right’ gear...

First issue I came across was the pipe being too thick and not going down the dipstick hole, so had to make a trip to the pond section in the local garden centre!!

Second issue was due to the poor quality of the pump, I could hear the air escaping from the top, so I had to pump it continuously, so to answer your other question, LOTS!!! I now have a right alarm like Popeye!!

But still, better than clambering about under the van, kept my clothes clean too!

You almost wonder if it was overfilled @ 6.5l? But glad its sorted and yes with a Pela its no hassle at all, just warm the engine so oil sucks up easily. And be careful to feel for sump bottom when inserting probe - you don't want to overshoot or it could snag - but I've always found it easy to fee the bottom (there's a massive double entendre with this wording but hey ho ha ha)

I know, that’s what I thought, I only put 6l back in and the level was fine... thought it was never going to end.

Talking of double entendres... I struggled feeling my probe hit the bottom, as it went very floppy as it got hot from the oil!!

Thing with the Pela is the tube is a plastic coating on a metal inner, a lot like the wire you hang net curtains on, so there is a definate 'clunk' when it touches the bottom and it stays firm.

Just pull back about 1/4" when it gets there.

I am planning on investing on a Pela for next time, my cheap pump and probe were definitely not fit for purpose!! Typical Yorkshireman... do owt t’ save a couple of quid!!
