Looking at that connector I'd cut it off, clean back to good wire, and fit a new one.

Leave the cap on the tank and take the screw all the way out....wire brush it and put a new terminal ring on as mentioned above by Bob...you will lose very little coolant through the screw hole.....cold engine, cap off to release pressure then replace cap.

Will try that and let you know if that fixes it.
Cheers.

Just one more thing!

I’m new to the world of terminal rings. Which is the best fit ?

If your battery is so good, why did it read 12.1 volts resting.....12.1 is very low. I know they are called 12 volt batteries but they should read about 12.6 after resting and about 14.2 with engine running

Give our Jo a ring. ( No on HAYDN ALARMS website and ask her to send you a new sensor screw extra long and a couple of terminal rings....tell her ‘dad says’

The battery fitter seemed to think 12.1 was okay

And after two diagnosis I’m going to accept that for now.

I’ll email Jo now. She sent me a load of screws recently so I’ll just ask her for the connector.

Thanks for the help. I’ll post back with any updates.

This is one reason (of many) Haydn alarms are so highly regarded. You wouldn't get that kind of after-sales support from many companies.

So true. Mines been in and working for 12 years. Replaced sensor screw a few years back (courtesy of Jo) and still get the occasional false chirp (they are very sensitive i suspect to capacitance as mine will stop usually if i use a current draining device like dabbing brake lights) . Set against what it might prevent, an LCA that is as reliable as this (and that has no damaging galvanic effect) is worth every penny.

I got the extra ring connectors and the screw. Thanks for sorting. Have fitted it (took two goes) - and if anything it's worse now. Alarm sounded for around 5 minutes on idle and then went off for another 5 mins and then back on and off over the next ten minutes While I parked up it was sounding quite strongly.

Im not sure what to do now. I might get some more connectors and try again.( I don't think the wire went all the way through first time.) I might drive it for a few days and see if it improves - but if not I might take it in to my local garage and see if they can do anything with it. I use my Bongo for work, so I can't keep driving with it going on and off.

It won’t be the alarm itself that’s faulty, they either work or play dead, you have either a duff connection of a electrical gremlin in the system..to eliminate the ring terminal, remove it, strip back about 2 inches of wire, loosen the screw a couple of turns, wrap the stripped back wire around a couple of turns then tighten the screw.....report back.

Can you take a voltage reading across the starter battery whilst engine off and again with engine running...
Also ...are you sure the alarm is wired into the starter battery ??

Oakworth is near Haworth Keighley.

Was thinking of trying to attach the wire directly. Will try that next.

If I test with my voltmeter what setting do I put It on? I know the setting for battery but little else.
