Right, so I ended up taking to me local garage who have sussed it to be a connector in the inhibitor switch. Wiring was corroded and a pin had snapped off. Just trying to source a replacement now! I need to get the gearbox code but don't have access to the vehicle at the moment annoyingly!

Will get there in the end :D

That particular IS carries BV8419444 part number, this is used on all models up to aprox 1999 then an updated BW0119444 was used.

Wow thank you! My mechanic said there was no part number on and that he wouldn't be able to get through general parts companies. Would you agree? I'm struggling to find a second hand one!
