The campsite ground is firming up nicely with this cold snap! I visited last weekend. There will be NO pub food on the Saturday. Really good walks from the pub (if you want to venture out).

Arrived Thursday evening and had a lovely catch-up with Bob and Sue. Too much alcohol! Friday was beautiful weather: walked to Pewsey, lunch in Royal Oak, and back. Furthest I’ve walked for a long time. So warm I had to remove my coat!
Majority of the rest of the group arrived on Friday, and only one casualty of the mud on the field, all sorted efficiently by Bob and his new tow bar. Good night in the pub. Saturday morning woke up to horrendous ENE wind and horizontal snow. It was freezing! Haydn was snowed in at home in the Valleys but he was the only casualty of the meet. Decided to stay in the pub! Gourmet Burgers were enjoyed by all! Had a flying visit from Thea and Kaz – good to see them before they disappear to France. Managed a shorter walk with Ruca in the afternoon.
Sunday morning woke up to about 8 inches of snow and still that wind! Drifting like crazy. Everyone declined the option of a snow angel competition – I don’t know why! Davey was the first to leave, followed by me. I preferred the option of driving on snow than ice on Monday morning! Savernake Forest looked beautiful as I passed by. No problems with the hills down into Marlborough or towards the M4 but the snow was being blown across the road between Ogbourne and Chiseldon on a slight but long incline. Traffic slowed and stopped (hey ho I thought), but they were just being sensible and letting each vehicle get up the hill before setting off themselves. Had a red Google Maps warning there and one lorry jack-knifed later. Debs & Terri also decided to go that morning, both getting home safely. Caz and Bob/Sue stayed Sunday night and Bob and Sue planning to stay until Tuesday because of the caravan.
Thanks to Bob for picking up my levelling blocks! I was so intent on getting off the grass I forgot all about them.
Can fully recommend this pub campsite. The landlord Matt is very welcoming and all the locals are very friendly, always drawing you into the conversations. Roaring fire and excellent real ales and special ciders!
Thank you to everyone for turning up. It was brill and a great test for my new LB!!! No ehu for Terri and me!! We're Tough Southerners, us!

It was a great meet and a good venue, Jill. Thanks for organising it. Thanks also to Bob for rescuing my Bongo from the mud on Friday evening. I did contemplate staying there until the mud froze but Bob had a better solution and towed me out! The pub was warm and friendly and was very welcome place to gather on such a cold weekend. I'd definitely like to visit again and hopefully walk and explore the area more next time.
