Should I bother to shop around

Yes definitely shop around for every insurance policy. They all try it on!!
NEVER just automatically renew it.

As an example, a few years ago we got our AA breakdown renewal through. We had been ‘members’ for 16 years & they wanted £140. I went online & got a new member quote for £99. I was somewhat annoyed so rung them up. Oh yes, the lady said, thats only to encourage new customers! So for being with them for 16 years, we had the privilege of being charged £41 extra!!
Needless to say I politely told her where she could put her renewal....

We got our Bongo a month ago. I rung around several specialists & got the insurance for £150. Thats for a 52yo & wifey, fully comp, parked on drive, mirrored NCD & 5k miles per year, which i thought was quite good. But will be interesting to see how much they want next year

Thats a great price. Is it a converted/campervan Bongo as they're cheaper to insure. But otherwise (or anyway!) is it rude to ask who you're with. Are you in a low theft risk area?

And thanks, and to Bob also. I'm getting a bit peed off with being a very good risk but having insurers try to bamboozle me.

It has been converted to a campervan. I’m in deepest rural Norfolk so probably a low risk area.
And its with Lifesure. They said they would ‘mirror’ my NCD. They needed proof of it but i could still use it for my main car.

Hi All, Total newbie here, just bought our Freda last weekend. Insurance tho..... Blimey what a nightmare! Yes, SHOP AROUND. I got quotes from all the recommended companies on the website, but by far the best deal was putting the Freda on a muliticar with Admiral, my main car insurer. The lowest I got the 'specialists' to was £750ish, but Admiral quoted me £350 and I bit their hand off for it! Saved myself the value of income for 2 days freelance work, by shopping around for a morning. No brainer. Nice to be here, and looking forward to lots of camping adventures to come!!

Welcome Fabfreda and yes, the insurance industry is a conspiring shambles, especially where law is compelling us to be insured so they have a captive market. To finish off my tale, I tried Lifesure, who couldn't even match 2gethers daft price. Another broker came up with a much better quote but didn't follow me up to seal the deal. When 2gether chased me, i told them the rival offer and they quickly matched it. None of this, especially when set against my never having claimed on any insurance policy ever in my 50 years of driving, my endorsement free license, low low annual mileage, no commuting, security features etc etc, goes down well with me. All the industry can do is bleat on about us paying the price for insurance fraud (why? I'm not expected to pay for drunken drivers accidents am i?) and point out that i might carry 8 people in my Bongo (as if!). But dudes, i already signed a limited mileage agreement to reduce my cost. I'd be happy to sign a similar one over how many people I may carry. But i just got a blank response to that one.

I got Fully Comp on 2002 registered as camper van with 4000m pa for £220 agreed value of £9K including EU with 2gether, discount for being on here apparently and also lowered quote when I said I was willing to pay £220 and not £265.
