it should do, as you know the gearbox is very voltage sensitive,so now the alternator and batts are sorted it should be fine.

i would recommend the gearbox filter be cleaned and the fluid changed but someone may shout different.

Thanks NB for the code clearing tip. Alas even though the flashing hold light cleared (not apparent when I reconnected the batteries with the ignition/panel lights on) it reappeared upon starting the engine.

It strikes me that there is a design fault. It seems that if the batteries run too low then the charge current is enough to blow the main 100A fuse. I'd better not leave any lights on!

I'd better leave a 10mm spanner on board so I can disconnect one of the batteries and charge them one at a time in the event of another low charge episode.

As for the hold light and no kickdown I can change down manualy so its not too urgent. I'm suspecting the Throttle Position Sensor. I'm getting codes 11, 12 and 16. 12 is TPS but the other codes aren't listed, any ideas?

If your battery gets so low that its blowing the 100Amp fuse on a regular basis then there is something wrong with your battery setup!
As a one off it could happen but in that case you will have presumably have charged the battery fully before taking it out again ?
What battery setup do you have ?

Hi Geoff, I have the two battery Winter Pack version. Two batteries in parallel so double the charge current I guess.
I've found a seller on ebay that does 5 100A fuses for a fiver or so. They are now in my glovebox hopefully never to be used!

Well if both batteries are new it should be OK, provided you don't race the engine for a few minutes after starting, to allow the initial surge charge to reduce a bit, but normally your talking of around 30-40 Amps for a single battery for a maybe 1-2 minutes, it won't be double that for two batteries as the charging voltage should fall a little with two batteries looking to be charged.
