I also returned the stereo back to running on the same fuse as the cigarette lighter and mirrors.
All serms to work as it should now, I guess only time will tell.

Thank you. Hopefully should another experience a similar problem with either the mirrors, cigarette lighter or stereo it will help resolve the issue.

Thought I would update my post having now found possibly the original short in the wiring loom.
Upon removing the rear side panel to access the transformer powering the two pin AC/DC socket I found the original earth (black wire) melted to the live. I could not believe how thin the earth wire was it must have been no more than 5amp.
Not sure if this was the cause of my mirrors not working as I fixed it by replacing the blue wire but it definitely had an effect somewhere. It's been 4 months since my repair and all seems fine to date.
