Ironically that used to be a complaint on here ha ha. Ian will recall my interest from 10 years back in trying to get the best out of our knowledge base, including being careful about not casually deleting valuable old posts (which has too often happened). BUT we have got to be way better than FB at all this, and unlike them we exist solely to serve Bongo owners. Regarding advertising, well this forum delivers readers into adverts also BUT its relevant advertising and so thats fine i think. What concerns me most though is that well known and knowledgeable / longstanding Bongo owners are i think increasingly being pulled over to FB. Similarly, new talent is i think landing on FB rather than BF, denying BF fresh blood. Who, for example, is still on BF, still running a Bongo and able to give expert advice. Bongolia comes to mind as one, but others are seen less frequently. Of the specialist traders/garages i see nothing on here but plenty on FB. Thats a shame.

So, although we all agree FB is a pain, i think we still need to get our thinking caps on. Because of one thing i'm certain: Bongos seem to be becoming classics out there, and they need BF somehow to remain at the centre of that. I'm off now to indulge in my increasing addiction to FB

Although I do not now have a Bongo, I like to contribute when ever I can .. both on BF and FB ..

Living on my own and most days at home 24/7 it occupies some of my time ..

Without a doubt most Forums are not as vibrant as they where a few years ago .. as I am on a couple of dozen FB groups .. every thing from local History .. local buying / selling sites .. WW11 .. Camping .. Various motor bikes .. motors etc: .. there is always something of interest to read and help pass the time..

FB or Forums ?? .. out of the two ?? .. For me .. Forums.. why ??.. there is to much good 'thrown away' information on FB .. people ask the same questions ... again and again rather than search for relevant posts .. even though the search function is on par to that of most Forums..

Although you get the occasional 'obnoxious' trouble maker poster .. generally Bongo FB is a friendly community .. a real plus being that there are defiantly more 'want to know' female members ... Sadly I think you get more of the 'dumbo brigade' who haven't much knowledge for simple questions like .. 'What is this button / switch for' and give childish answers like ' don't touch ..it's an injector seat' and such ..

Well made point, Mike.

Yes, we make daft comments on here, but almost always directed at a long term personal friend, just the same as we would do down the pub.

If someone new needs an answer we all help and give a good welcome. :D

Friendliest Forum out there if you ask me.

Excellent points Mike and noted, as someone about to retire and be on his own, with another wet dark day outside my window! BF is definitely a better investment of time than FB especially for our specialist interest.

Maybe we should make it our business to slip mention of BF into our posts wherever possible (note to self!)

I have only recently joined Face Book - mainly to keep in touch with children who have now left home - and a couple of clubs I am involved in. Before that I spent a few years on BF asking lots of questions, which produced answers, that persuaded me to take the plunge and buy a Bongo. Without BF I probably wouldn't have bought, and I am pretty sure I wouldn't if I had only been looking at FB.

I think the point made about new Bongo owners landing on FB first is an important one as is the other comment that it may be an idea to redirect FB people to BF as often as possible, without it looking too obvious.
Once they have seen the resource here they will be more inclined to visit/ join up.
A bit of guerrilla marketing, something that FB seems to be used for quite a lot.

Yes you can't blame people for being sucked into FB - even i'm getting sucked in :-( But it would be very bad news if FB killed chat on a structured forum like this. Facebook is like a library where all the books are just scattered all around the floor, with no index. No society ever got great doing it like that [-X FB is really a spectacular trap - you get hooked then all the funny stuff starts (dodgy adverts, products etc). The Bongo Tribe are better than that - its why we bought Bongos ha ha.

Bob I look forward to your "daft" comments on here as I find them highly amusing.....and it seems a while since you had to get your coat...
It is good to see the likes of yourself and other regulars still posting on BF and all the good advice and comments rather than idle chit chat.
I only post if I feel I have a useful comment to make but I am always keeping in touch with what is happening....so long live Bongo Fury... =D>

Speaking of search, I find it really annoying that by default a normal google search just doesn't include forum results from here. Seems like a missed opportunity to me.

Excellent point. You'd think that would be possible and it would steer people to this site. I'm seeing some dodgy advice being given out on Farcebook, when i can spot it in amongst the adverts that is ha ha. People would be better off here i reckon.
