Re: 2.0 petrol cold start problem
Ok, thanks. I was thinking the same, so I've been looking at the parts lists in Part Finder & it looks like only the September 2001 on models had the separate coil, so that should make finding the right type easier.
Re: 2.0 petrol cold start problem
What's the Mazda part number of the Distributor? And which page of the parts catalogue is it on? I'll then cross reference it to see if it is found on other Mazdas or Fords.

Well done Rita, good spot.
Manxdreamer, I know you phoned this morning when I was out, but I have now done some research. Unfortunately the coil for the pre-01 editions of the 2 litre Bongos are not available separately. Instead you have to buy the whole distributor unit. As you have already found out the cost is in excess of £700. It is part number FEMJ18200A.
It is not compatible with any other vehicles.
So it might be worth considering sending it away for repair to Rita's recommendation, Ignitionparts. Alternatively, if you go to www.autojapspares.co.uk and follow the links to their eBay shop you will see that they provide a Distributor Repair Kit for the 2 litre at £129.
Might be worth a try?

It says 1999 onwards give them a phone to confirm this is what you require, what year is your vehicle?

Re: 2.0 petrol cold start problem
Rita, Ian, thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it. The garage managed to get the part number of the distributor, it's a Mitsubishi part, T2T59171, which ties in with the part number for the reconditioned distributor at ignitioncar parts. It looks like the coil unit is T2T59571. Their listing says from Aug 1999 on and mine's a '97, but I've been looking through the part finder & the distributor seems to be the same from '95 to August 2001 when it changed to the separate coil type like the V6. I'll give ignitioncarparts a ring tomorrow. Once again, thanks for your help.

Re: 2.0 petrol cold start problem
Well, I got a coil from ignitioncarparts about 3 weeks ago now & dropped it off at the garage. Finally got the Bongo back yesterday - looks like there's been a bit of a fall out at the garage, the guy who was doing the job doesn't seem to be around anymore! Any way, so far it seems ok, started with no issues this morning. Still early days, but very promising so far. Thanks again for your help guys - that ignitioncarparts was a real star find!

Nice work. Lets hope that s the last of it.

Re: 2.0 petrol cold start problem
Hi, just wondering if your cold start problem was resolved by fitting the new coil please
