As said ebay it spares or repair
Or get someone to really see what damage is

Not sure about what Bob? I'm one of those who sings his praises but i'm just trying to say i don't know how much he seeks out repairs work unless it is for value added reasons. I don't think that wouldn't make him unfair in any way, just someone with a business to run

If the question was, "How much would you give me for a Bongo with a blown engine?" That's quite different to, "Is this a viable repair, and roughly how much, please?"

Just think its worth asking and see where you go from there.

Oh i agree about that - definitely ask. But if George is a one man band 50 miles away and with a sales operation to run, I wouldn't blame him for being hesitant. I'm wondering though, if the engine is too badly damaged, whether he might quote for supplying and fitting a replacement engine. Assuming of course the OP has a budget that would run to that.

My thinking too, wouldn't hurt to ask a price, Alex would be better informed which way to go then.

I had replacement engine fitted about 4 years ago by a garage in London. It cost a grand and a half.

Thanks for the update Rita. It's great to learn that George now has a team actively seeking repair work and no doubt they'll be/are as fantastic at that as they are at doing spares (i added a well done on facebook just the other day for their rescue of a Bongo owner in trouble). I learned of George on here (through Ady mainly) as a spares/breaker (his trading name - Bongospares - hints at their origin) and might have remained none the wiser were it not for your intervention . Hopefully the OP will also be pleased to know.

No worries Bob. Hopefully my posts now make sense ha ha. Its good news to have another Bongo repairs specialist covering that part of the world (and way beyond - especially with the spares side\) and it all helps to reinforce the fact that Bongos look likely to be around and cared for for many years to come.

If you had space to keep it and could deal with the hassle, bung the parts on ebay, people might come and get bits off it/send them out and you can charge what you fancy for the parts. Probably highly impractical unless you have land available, mechanical skill to get them off, just throwing it out there.
