Just seen the last post, no the lights should not go out the LB should still be connected, check back to the LB there should be an in-line fuse from the +ve terminal to a cable running into the van to the the Zig unit, suspect it might be blown!

No, can't see any hefty cable running from the LB or the car battery. Regarding your last post, I will check the LB in-line fuse tomorrow and get back to you.

Can you get these in-line fuses from most automotive parts shops?

Success gentlemen!!!! It was an in-line fuse from the LB which wasn't seated correctly. I checked all the in-line fuses from the LB, pulled them out and pushed them back and lo and behold the fridge now works with or without the EHU.

Many thanks for all your help.

That's good news!
Its worth occasionally pulling and re-inserting all the fuses (yearly say) as they can get damp and corroded on the contacts and a little bit of movement will disturb this and clear it out.

Thank you for all that. One final point tonight: The terminals on the LB are clearly marked + and - but there aren't any clear + or - markings on the car battery; which one is which? One of the terminals has 2 cables running from it with what looks like earth wire colour code i.e green and yellow stripes. The other terminal only has one black cable running from it.

The +ve of the Starter battery has the master fuse holder on it on a fixed arm, it will be on the left hand side / offside on the far side of the battery. The righthand side of the battery is the -ve, with one or two earthing cables depending on vehicle type.

It can only really be fitted and connected up one way.
