So does anyone know where to get GL6 oil :?:

I'd rather top up with GL6, than risk slowly diluting the original with GL5 :!:

I have been on the case of trying to track down GL6 oil and here is the latest position, I know some of the info may not be correct but I am interested which is which and peoples opinions of what I have been told.

I decided to contact some oil companies directly. Millers do a semi-synthetic. I may have picked the guy up wrong but he seemed to say that GL6 had only come onto the market in the last 12 months, I am now wondering about this as it is a complete contradiction to what I have been told since. They suggested a fully-synthetic GL5 would do the job which they could supply mail order (CRX-LS 75/90 BM).

The next company was Silkolene who from memory were a kind of pioneer of synthetics, they said GL6 is really redundant now as GL4sand 5s are so much better than they were a few years ago, the difference between mineral oil and synthetic they said would be due to increased pressures within the LSD, which would have made a GL6 a safer bet a few years ago however they felt a 4/5 Fully synthetic would do the job.
The guy I spoke to had used this himself in a racing car with no problems. Slightly cheaper they do a GL5 mineral oil which should also do the job.
So I am still in a bit of a quandry, I would really have liked to get something that said 'GL6' in the absence of that a fully synthetic GL5 sounds best to me but I am no Oil technician. :?

Ok here is the outcome of my investegations as far as i am concerned anyway. I have been told by 2 sources that GL6 is now outdated (Castrol and Silkolene technical dept.s) Silkolene offere me a mineral GL6 which they still do but also a synthetic GL5 which they were sure would be more than adequate. The product is called Silkolene silk trans syn 5 and is used in the Lsds of racing and rally cars. They gave me my local stockist which was Andrew Wodd Motorsport at Melrose in the Scottish Borders and they had it in stock and at slightly cheaper than the price I had been quoted (£12.15 per litre), so I popped down at the weekend and picked it up, now just got the job to do, hope this is of help to others. :D
