So the bongo steering wheel has a spline and single slot? does it have the mounting hole screws for fixing the squib from the Mazda 6?

How does the squib turn with the steering wheel? Is it attached to the storks? Compatible?

Give us a ring.

I'll give you a buzz,

In the meantime just so you're clear and everyone else is.

Behind a non airbag equipped steering wheel there is no squib.
What the squib (otherwise called a clockspring) does is allow electrical connections on the spinning wheel. This allows the connection between the deployment module and the airbag to be constant no matter where the wheel is turned. Also it does the horn.

Now on the non airbag model you have no need for this fancy stuff so I believe you have a post that when you press the horn it connects and works.

What you will have though regardless is the blue plastic indicator cancelling forks.
See pic.

They are at 3 and 6 oclock on the Bongo. These correspond to slots in the back of the steering wheel. So when you use the indicator stalk they push out into the back of the steering wheel, locate in the slots and when you've turned past half a turn they disengage and turn your indicators off.

Now on the Mazda 6 and RX8 the slots are at 12 and 6 oclock - so what you need to do is put slots at 3 and 6 on the back of the steering wheel, so A it fits and B its turns off once you've turned.

You only need the squib in your case if you want the up/down volume or all that to work on the wheel, as you have no airbag to deploy.

The squibs are interchangable between 6, RX8 and Bongo in that they physically fit.

But you don't "need" it.

You can quite easily fit the new wheel to the Bongo steering column buy just cutting new slots on the back of the M6/RX8 wheel.
