Try removing the banjo filter, the little bu**er can look clean but still cause problems. If that doesn't cure it check the TPS (throttle position sensor).

Facelift (fly by wire) model or older?
I have heard of the later models having some very hard-to-find problems though I think it related more to stalling at speed. Anyway, if yours is a facelift model I can try to follow up with the owner. ADS (Bristol) saw the cryptic stalling problem twice in as many months - first one took them nearly two days to isolate!! So if you have a tame specialist they might just have seen it.

Thanks guys, I've had the banjo filter out already and gave it a good clean but will check it again. Not checked the TPS yet, will have a look at that too
I'm afraid its an early one cmm303 so no fly by wire.

Small consolation but t's more likely to be something experienced by more peeps.

Ok so checked everything again and still nothing......... However, I was starting to run low on diesel so filled up, since it had been poorly I thought I would treat it to some Vpower. The drive home it was still the same with no power. The next day I did a short journey and the power was there more often than not and by the day after and since then it has been fine. Just wondering if this could have been caused by a bad batch of fuel? Or possibly something in the tank that was blocking the pickup (I did blow through the pipe to try clear it).
I'm chuffed that it seems to be sorted but I don't like not knowing what caused it, if it happens when I am further from home it could be a total pain.
Anyways thanks muchly for all the help and advice

I was going to suggest a clean through with cleaner but it did seem to point to something more mechanical ? maybe you live and learn.

Hi all, the same problem is back again

this time however it hasn't been intermittent. The power dropped and its never come back, I checked everything I could but had to admit defeat. It's in the garage at the moment but even they are struggling to work out what the issue is. Fingers crossed they'll figure it out soon!

I'm assuming there is no ECU code to aid diagnosis.

I'm afraid not, they've checked the Turbo and various parts of the fuel system but so far no luck. I spoke to the garage this morning and they are thinking it could be the pump but are going to check a few things before they try replacing it.

Pump will cost

. Bongospares is supposed to be good for refurb pumps.
Looking for help from the experts with this thought - the rod thingy in the top of the FIP that is accessed when changing the side seals: Can this stick and cause power loss?
If so can it be fixed without replacing the whole pump?

Out of interest, what happens if you drop it down a gear and put your foot down (press HOLD, shift to S etc.).

Not a lot
Just lots of noise but you don't get anywhere any faster. Even on a slight uphill slope no matter what gear it will gradually lose speed till you're doing about 40mph.
Spoken to the garage again this evening and they're out of idea's and the pump is the only thing left to try. Spoken to Bongo Spares and going to get a refurbished one ordered tomorrow. Fingers crossed that will get it sorted, starting to miss the thing!!

Has anyone considered the throttle position sensor as i recall this being the cause of some problems in the past though i think they were more related to gear changing. Might be worth a search though to read up on it.

I did wonder about that, just to be safe I have ordered a replacement TPS along with a reconditioned pump so hopefully one or both of them will sort the issue. Will keep you posted.
Thanks again everyone for the words of wisdom, it's very much appreciated.

Excellent. Fingers crossed for you. Very frustrating when this kind of thing happens. Keep us posted.
