i got that bit, but why would the egr cause a problem when warm, when thats when it should be open, you would have thought it would show a fault earlier when cold when it should be closed.

Its has intermittently been opening when idling hence the stalling problem, its only supposed to open at a specific load ,that's the reason for the solenoid valves etc..

So it wasn't stuck open then?
Gas safe heating engineer / plumber if you need any advice just shout.

Perhaps it's intermittently open and intermittently closed i.e. working ?

Exactly,it was staying OPEN when on tick over causing the engine to stall, "from Robster post" not all the time and only when on tick over."
I might be wrong but that's what I would call an intermittent fault.
I think Robster nailed it when he suggested " Are we thinking a sensor may be on it's way or EGR sticking maybe"
