I'll be very interested to hear how you get on in Thirsk Pam. I've been visiting Yorkshire Gliding Club at Sutton Bank and am thinking of joining. A good Bongo garage nearby could be just the job :-)

Good luck, keep us posted. I like Thirsk a lot :-)

Mike

Right.....here goes.....bongo goes via breakdown club, low loader, to andy at VISAR garage, Thirsk. I had felt very happy on speaking to Andy that he knew what he was talking about, no vague 'we'll see' etc. an anxious night followed, worrying about my fab Bongo, and could it be saved. Phone call from Andy this morning......he did NOT agree re my garage stating it was the head gasket! Seems that the OIL FILTER was not fit correctly and then not bled properly. Andy has tested , bled/ drained the system, and run my van ,and says it is absolutely fine !!!! He went over all the symptoms with me, again, and is happy he is right. He has corrected any mistakes, and found a couple NOT noticed by my garage...broken drop links, and a rear hose/ pipe corroded. I couldn't be more pleased, in fact I'm ecstatic out the outcome. I am picking my bongo up tomorrow lunchtime, and cannot wait!!!

So, after speaking and dealing with my local garage(who say they have done nothing wrong)and a local dealership, I have no hesitation in recommending Andy at VISAR garage ,Thirsk.
BUT I WOULD NOT HAVE GONE THERE HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR YOU GUYS ON THIS FORUM =D> And the info available on the garage guide list.

THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOUR INPUT...IT ALL HELPED ME TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION FOR MY BONGO........AND MY POCKET !

Pam xxxxx

Superb news Pam, and a huge thumbs up for Thirsk. I think the York's GC should buy a Bongo for towing/gliding expeditions esp with VISAR nearby to look after it.

Excellent about that pipe replacement too - it could have gone any time, like mine did last summer.

Yayyyyy =D> =D> =D>

Yorkshirelass....do you have a Low Coolant Alarm fitted ? Read the comments on this forum ... It will help protect your engine in the future.

I used mine so I could limp over to Adrian in Bury with said corroded pipe leaking: it told me when to pull over and top up! Without it, I'd have been stuffed.

Got my bongo back...drives beautifully again...thanks andy!!!!!
My local garage clearly did not do either a proper mot check, or a service. Andy found that the front brakes had NOT been cleaned or that they'd even had the wheels off during the service time , bl""dy ridiculous.......with MY safety at stake here . My first words re the service etc did not go down well, and no chance of any refund on the £323 spent with them fora bogged job. Will visit them again re the brakes now. What's betting they continue to shrug their shoulders and say we've done nothing wrong ??
How do I prove otherwise without involving Andy from Visar in it? Any ideas here anyone .

So pleased to have my bongo back =D>

Excellent news Pam. You ought to drop in at Yorkshire gliding club at Sutton Bank next time you're going to Andy's. Spectacular views and gliders whizzing about.

Sounds like a plan Mike, I came back this way today but cannot remember seeing any signs for the club ? Mind you the weather was foul and I was concentrating on the road !!

Yes they only fly in decent weather. Sutton Bank is lovely for a stroll and the footpath runs right next to the grass airfield.
