I have a V6 .. the previous owner supplied me with the handbook and workshop manual .... for a diesel ... strange as he was a member of Bongo Fury .. and V6 manuals are available ..

http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/mercha ... tm#Manuals

So I imagine there are members with the V6 manual who can help you ..

Definitely get yourself the manual. It comes in two parts: engine and chassis. They cover both petrol engines and it's better value to buy as a pair.

If anyone knows what other uk model mazda's use this engine & what years i will look up autodata to see if it lists as an interference engine or not.

The only models listed are non-UK: Mazda 929 and MS9:

Hi all,
just a quick update.
Been really busy at work etc and the weather has been lousy over the last couple of weekends... so nuffin done except buoying a lot of bits... possibly now looking for some one local to Witham in Essex that can be trusted to do a good job?
Any suggestions? I think there was a garage over in Braintree? can anyone recall....

Hi all,
finally bit the bullet and got a local garage in Braintree to take a look at it...

Not such good news. :( . it appears there is a significant amount of damage in the engine... to a degree that allows the cams to turn over by hand quite easily. They tell me this shouldn't happen like that.

Rebuilds are going to be inherently very expensive..... :-({|=

Sounds like I'm heading for another engine from somewhere... if I can source one?

:?: Anyone know of a source of low mileage examples.....

????

Has the Garage/Mechanic actually removed the Head/Heads.???

No they haven't removed the head(s)

They are going by the fact they can't feel any resistance offered back through the followers pushing back on the cam. This should stop you from easily turning the cams... is this true?

Is there a good sectional or piece part drawing of the valve train....? are these hydraulic tappets? never asked these questions before on this engine....

...Ever optimistic....

Hi NB
Just rang the gentleman in question... seems like a good supplier... sadly he's only got parts not a complete motor...

Really looking for a complete motor... If I had the time I would love to rebuild this one but sadly having to work for a living....

Seen a couple on *Bay.... :-k

There are four cams .. 24 valves operating via 24 hydraulic tappets ..

Once you or they have removed the heads all should become apparent until then you will not know the extent of the damage (if any).

If you are adventurous you could always fit a new belt to test the engine, taking the necessary precautions.

The HLA only function when the engine is running (normally).

PS you might even see a problem when you remove the cam covers.

Good Luck.

You should feel strong resistance when trying to turn it by hand.

Did you get a new belt? If so I would try fitting it and then turning the engine over with a spanner on the crankshaft - if it jams you have bent/stuck valves. I'm not convinced about the cams being hard to turn if they have hydraulic actuators as the valves may only get opened once there's hydraulic pressure - so with the engine off they may be easy to turn even if not damaged - perhaps someone with more detailed knowledge on how these work could comment? I'd say for the cost of a new belt it would be worth trying before spending a lot on taking off the heads or getting a new engine.
