I remember all that and the incredible detail Steve got into. A great bit of work. And as you say - great fun. I think I've lost a little of the experimentor urges I used to have and now am looking for the simplest and most robust device that will do the job and keep my engine safe.

I will probably look at installing the other 11 sensors -- one day (or year) very interesting data capture though most certainly into that - whats the optimum speed then. I have trouble getting my head round torque peak at just over 2000rpm so spend a lot of time (locally) changing up at that engine speed.

That depends on what the ambient temperature is, the height above sea level, the state of the engine, the make of fuel, the terrain (i.e. the road surface and incline, plus how many times you slow for a village)...Absolutely everything was included in the data we took back then...AND MORE....months of it!...and like as not, Jim, I have gauges you won't need ...EGT , inlet manifold temperature and water/ methanol flow rate
oh...and I have a whole lot of LED indicators....it's like a flight deck...
Regarding data capture there are pretty good gauges which can be linked to a central serial data capture point and relayed to your mobile 'phone...To equip the Bongo thus would cost more than you could buy a Bongo for....
Seriously, you could get by with a few gauges and you'd be surprised how they improve your driving and fuel economy!

Purely personal thought, but first job after coolant would be turbo boost...surprising how gently you can drive if you watch it!...Fuel flow????....are you thinking of tuning the IP ?

Did you ever do any research on the effect of towing a 1000kg trailer on temperatures attained (rate of change) or even temperature of autobox.
Any help on finding the origional posts would be appreciated (eg timescales or possible titles).

Hi
The plan was to confirm the way the cooling system works...no trailers were used or harmed in the making of the data!
Errr...I still have some of the records, but Steve did the graphs, and correlation of the tests...they'll be on the search facility, and he did the fabulous pictures...It all took a lot of time and constant e-mailing, but it's all there for the viewing!....
