Seems the six lead set does not have any connector leads set at right angles where as the seven lead set has 3 straight and 3 at 90 degrees, other set must be for a ford ranger or poss late bongo model with the coil in the distributor.

The correct Mazda parts are side-specific: right angled on the n/s & straight on the o/s as shown on Lush Projects:

http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html

You could probably get away with straight for all 6 as Mike's photo seems to show.

Pretty certain the V6 was never fitted to the Ranger & as far as I know, all V6 Bongos have separate coil. My 2002 model does.

Changed leads today, however think i may have mixed up the firing order.
I have it as (Clockwise) King lead, 4-5-1-3-6-2 , pretty sure I have cylinders 2-4-and 6 correct but 3-5-1 cylinders are possibly mixed up as engine is not running correctly. The head under the passenger seat with leads 2-4-6 was not a problem to change, the leads under the drivers side for cylinders 1-3-5 were cable tied together several times and had to be removed in one go as i could not gain access to cut all the ties. This is where I think i have mixed up the firing order. Looking at the picture on the dizzy cap it poss should be king lead, 4-3-5-1-6-2 but did not want to give my self any further problems without checking, hope someone can help.

This is my cap if it helps. From king lead: 4-3-5-1-6-2

It sounds like its the drivers side that's wrong. The cylinders are 5-3-1 from front to rear:

Passy side is 2-4-6:

It's OK Simon both yourself and Mike's pictures have been of great help, and I never even noticed you had reversed the plug positions on the post, due to the great photo's you have both supplied. Really heavy rain today, so I will rectify my mistake when the rain eases off later today. Still don't know if the new leads have cured the original misfire problem fingers crossed Jim...[-o<

Front       Engine       Rear
             2   4    6

Ok, checked my leads and the company I purchased them from labeled the longest HT lead as number 1 and, it should had been marked as number 5 as that is the cylinder at the rear of the engine. Have swapped the leads over at the distributor cap and changed the labels, now running fine, however I now have a RED warning light, "HEAT". (it is the 2nd warning light on the RHS of the dash next to the the fuel gauge.) Have I disturbed a sensor when removing all the HT leads that were cabled together I don't know, had a look could not see anything obvious. Any ideas guys [-o< [-o< [-o<

I think that warns if the catalyst is overheating ..

Looking at the condition of the printed circuit on my speedo my V6 as never had a bulb / holder in

Hmmmm the light is illuminated as I turn the ignition, I start the bongo and it stays on, so the cat should have not heated that quick, either I have pulled a wire when fitting the leads, or it's a faulty sensor, or it was caused by the HT leads being reversed, or has a new fault has appeared.
I was kind of hoping that the ecu had picked up the misfire/mixture fault due to the reversed leads and the fault would disappear after I had resolved the misfire problem, would the sensor clear itself immediately or could it be I just need to take it on another run to clear the fault light. Can I cause any damage by taking it out a run for say 1 mile or so.

I know that my ABS bulb had been removed (and why) ... but I checked and there where no 'tram lines' gouged into the printed circuit .. so I am sure mine never had a factory fitted 'Heat' bulb / holder..

You would think once the engine and the cat cooled the HEAT fault light would go out or is there a fault clearance procedure.
