Finally got around to finishing the AFT , pretty impressed by the final results, don't get me wrong it's not as good as a proper spray job but it's pretty close I didn't have a polishing machine so still a little orange peel effect in some places. I took the opportunity (while I had the stepladder out) to fit the chequered roof decal. Just need to fit the side decals (on order).

Total cost was about £100 but £60 of that will be the decals.

Yes lots of work but it paid off in the end, the only real problem is that it takes a few weeks because you have to leave the paint a week to harden fully before rubbing down and applying next coat. Cheap fix though and you only need 1 litre of rustoleum. :D

Did one litre do both coats?

Yup, I mixed it at 80% paint to 20% white spirit, it goes a long way! As with all body work it's 95% preparation so make sure the AFT is sanded down and clean before you start, I used 400 grit wet and dry and panel wipe before I started. Then mask off the areas you don't want to paint and use a mini foam gloss roller to apply.

The paint I used is rustoleum combi color and I got mine from Rawlings paints but there are a few other suppliers. The colour I used was RAL7001 silver grey but it's a bit lighter than the original #-o I think RAL7000 squirrel grey may be a better match for the original AFT colour :)

Old thread but hoping people still checking...
I've got a grey AFT but I want to paint it green (like the majority of the rest of my van) is there a Rustoleum colour that is close enough to 'Bongo green'?

I painted my whole van in Rustoleum 7001 earlier this year, and plant to do it again in white next year as i am not that keen on the whole van being grey with some green highlights! Lots of work but cheap and you can get a good finish for a roller.
