Bongo Fury

Wayne took the bung off when he bought a new cap on and it stopped leaking.
I agree with Dandy. Thinking about it, if the radiator has the outlet on the neck, what other differences are there on it?
Should have looked more closely.
If it has all the other correct bits, then it should be ok to just blank it off, but better make sure.
Dandy, the pressure for blow off on the radiator cap was MUCH higher than the pressure blow off for the expansion tank, so surely this would have blown off first if it were pressure in the system.
Also, when the system was warm and running, Wayne removerd the header tank cap and there was pressure in there, but no more than normal, by the noise it made on removal. I know that listening is not an accurate indicator, but you know what I mean.

Also, the leak is a dribble, not under pressure, by the look of it.

hasent happened today.

when i got the new rad and put it in it was exactly the same as the old rad apart from the pipe in the neck.


but it never leaked out of it before untill now. but like dave said the expansion tank cap should realease before the radiator cap should?

I think thats where your problems are.........both the caps on mine are 1.1 bar - I've never yet fathomed out why there are 2 pressure caps, most systems I've come across have a plain (non pressure) cap on the radiator and a pressure cap on the expansion tank. But I've looked at 3 Bongos now and they all have 2 pressure caps Weird, cos there's nowhere for it to blow off to (except Wayne's has!!!)

still leaking out coolant, but not sure if simply blanking off the pipe will fix the problem, as i am sure it didnt do this for the previous 4 months the rads been in.


any one else bought this type of radiator off ebay with the pipe on the neck?

if so have you noticed coolant seaping out of it ?

Couple of things to check out Wayne

1. what pressure is marked on the radiator cap? 1.1 Bar (approx 17 psi) is standard

2. does the cap seat properly in the new rad neck and is there a rubber seal in there?

on the original cap that came with the rad is 0.9

and the new one is13lbs or 90 kpa??

yes it sits in with the rubber sealon the spring mount.

Same difference Wayne........can anyone tell us the correct cap pressure?
both mine are 1.1 bar

ive got a 1.1 cap on order for tomorrow, to see if it will be any different. the motor factors has 2 radiator caps, one 0.6 and the other 1.1 listed for the bongo in his book that he showed me.

so if anyone has a petrol bongo could they just have a look on there rad cap to see what pressure it says on theres please.

coz i have a sneaky feeling that i have had the wrong pressure cap on my 2.5 td.

really gettin pi**ed off now!

got my new radiator cap again, (1.1 bar) everything seemed to be ok for a couple of days(no coolant seep), but got out of work today and noticed a pool of coolant under the bongo

leaking through the pipe in the neck of the radiator again. so it cant be that i had the wrong pressure rad cap on. anyone any ideas?

Permanently bung up the little pipe thing.
As long as the rad is the same as ours in every other respect, it wont do any harm.
