I think what seventiesboy means is when you open the casing, you should see a small channel like this (this is an Omnistor so not exactly the same as the YKK)....
Then you get a 3.0m length of the Kador strip (the grey thing in the pic below) that you can trim to length or just leave long, to connect the beading of your driveaway awning to the figure-8, and thence to the casing of your YKK

Ah i will have a look later and take a picture and upload on here. That's a great help seeing your pictures. Do you then wind in the YKK once its connected. This looks a very neat way of attaching the awning so i hope its possible with the YKK.

That's it
Well done Muz
Buy the kador the length that you need it, run it along the channel, attach the figure of 8, attach the bead on the awning tunnel to the figure of 8 and jobs a good un"
And, yes, wind it back in.

Just make sure you get the right one, we got ours from here....

For the Omnistor we needed the Safari Kador which has a standard bead one side and a smaller bead the other side. From what's posted above it appears you need the Standard Kador, with standard beads both sides.

Thanks Maz. Going to check the ykk has the little channel at lunchtime to be sure and post a picture then will order some. Would i require 3m of the kador and 3m of the figure of 8? Or less than that?

3.0m is plenty, I got 3.0m and trimmed it to suit. Normally the figure-8 is in shorter lengths although you can get long pieces, but 2 or 3 shorter pieces of figure-8 to make up the required length is fine

Pretty sure that the YKK is standard 6mm x 6mm kador unlike the Fiamma.
The length of kador and figure of 8 required is dictated by the length of the channel on the YKK and also the height/width of the awning tunnel. When you get the awning there will be instructions on how to measure the figure of 8 to the right length so that it fits the height of the van, you will understand what I mean when you see it.
3m will be more than long enough, probably more like 2.5m. Measure the channel lenght on the YKK and go from there. Obviously when you fit the kador and close the YKK back up again you are limited to the lenght of that channel.
