Is it 4WD or 2WD.
Rita,
I think Mr Walsall thought of that one too. I have had a go at pushing it and yes it does move freely. And it's a V6 2WD.
Just a point, not sure how it works but even when in reverse gear I can push it forward with the motor running! That can't be right!

To my reasoning .. as it has been happening before .. it does seem more of a 'box' associated problem. than a 'final drive' one ..

Did the fluid still look a transparent red .. Or a smelly brown colour .. as that is an indication of burnt clutch (drive) bands ..

are the tickover revs normal, or are they dipping down below normal??.

I had the oil changed a matter of 6weeks ago. This included having the sump taken off and cleaned? (I even sourced a new sump gasket from JPN) I asked them to clean the Labarinth filter and so on. My thoughts are something may of been disturbed and now somethings blocked....?
To answer the question the oil is extremely transparent and not burnt...

That's the strange bit, the engine ticks over normally and if I engage the drive the revs drop around 100rpm as if it's in gear... just got no drive....?

Given that you've said the gearbox had been making noises for a while, assuming this was after the fluid change, then there does seem to be the possibility of a connection. Was the job done by a Bongo expert, autotransmission expert? I think you need to be talking with the latter (try PMing Alacrity in case he still reads posts). Impossible to say, but I wonder if the box is fundamentally ok but something - solenoid pack maybe - is playing up. Good luck, keep us posted.

I'm of a similar opinion that somethings gone wrong down below....
Possibly blocked solenoids leading to failed oil feeds hence strange noises especially whilst cold....

Your question was it done by an expert..... they thought so?
Has it been done by an auto expert... they think so?
My opinion ....****
Given what else the did when servicing and charged me for ..... No! sadly.

Now it's a case of what to do next....

I'm going to take a look around the outside tomorrow morning, if the rain holds off. try and clean up any electrical connections that I can find.... look for leaks?... look at sourcing another gearbox if one can be found near enough...

Question, are all bongo gearboxes the same?
2wd ...
I have a 2001 V6
??

I will source another, fix the one I have and either sell it on or swap back into my van and keep one as a spare.... Where can I find another????

Thanks for you help so far people....

I wonder if boxes are different internally, to provide the right gear ratios for each different type of engine and its torque/power curve? Have you tried PMing Alacrity yet? Good luck

I'm inclined to agree, it sounds like something in the box but have look and see if the propshaft is going round when it's in gear with the the engine running.
If it is then I guess the diff is knackered or something is slipping inside the box.
Were there any nasty bits in the gearbox sump when they changed the oil?

Unfortunately letting someone else do the work I wasn't privie to what was seen and done, only what they told me.

looking at what S/H gearboxes are around... I'm being asked to quote a number on plate on the box? can't obviously see one... Anyone suggest where it might be, or is this number quoted anywhere else? thanks

Hi
Can you trace it from the VIN number on the passenger B pillar (rear of door opening)....I would suspect there is a given type of boxe for every production run of vehicles, and you should be able to tell the exact manufactured date if you put your VIN number in the Russian Bongo site
Cheers

Hi,Re the plate it would be worthwhile asking the person that is supplying the S/H box where you can find it.

If the Part Number is of any use to them its......BW1719090
